To be successful in the parts manufacturing industry it has become imperative to find high quality, cost effective solutions for the entire machining process. With this in mind, we have developed the A20, a φ20 mm machine that is not only economical but is loaded with standard features such as an RGB unit, product separator and

lighting. The control functions include constant surface speed control, spindle speed fluctuation detection, nose R compensation and many more. The bed is 1.8 times heavier than conventional φ20 mm machines and the dense spindle construction and sleeve holders enable high rigidity and heavy-duty cutting capability.

Citizen’s unique Stream Line Control is adopted in the new A20 lathe. Productivity is improved in conjunction with the latest NC high-speed calculation processing. Overall, this machine can provide dramatic cost performance not only during initial set up but throughout its lifetime.

Improved Productivity The approach to improving productivity (that was adopted to customer acclaim with the Cincom K16 and L20) is fully utilized in the A20. By installing the latest NC unit and adopting Citizen’s unique control technique “Streamline Control” we have managed to slash idle time and reduce cycle time. This is a new generation of CNC automatic lathe that, while giving you unrivalled cost performance, also gives a real sense of true productivity improvements. Installation of the Latest NC Unit With its high-speed calculation processing it achieves substantial reductions in macro processing time, ladder scanning time and so on, contributing to reduction of cycle times. Streamline Control Streamline Control is a control system unique to Citizen that produces fast and smooth movements. It reduces idle time without any affect on cutting, and achieves substantial reductions in cycle time. Direct C-axis Indexing When a spindle C-axis command is used for positioning, the spindle will slow down and stop at the desired index position without unnecessary zero point return, eliminating idle time. #ONVENTIONAL -ACHINE

Axis Feed Motion Overlap Function The next axis feed motion starts without waiting for completion of the current motion of another axis. This eliminates wasteful idle time and effectively suppresses machine vibration.

Technology to Cope with Thermal Expansion

Heavy-Duty Bed for More Rigidity This heavy-duty bed weighs 1.8 times as much as that of a conventional machine. It not only permits heavy-duty cutting, but is also excellent at damping the various vibrations generated during machining.

Left/Right Symmetrical Bed The bed has been designed with a perfectly symmetrical construction in consideration of thermal expansion. The design also gives consideration to thermal damping characteristics, and the relatively small thermal displacement of the bed during long periods of operation promotes high accuracy.

Rigid Sleeve Holders Like the bed, the sleeve holders used for drilling also have a durable design. This permits heavy-duty cutting when drilling. Rigid Construction Around the Spindle The spindle, which is the essential element for machining, also has a high rigidity construction. We can note in particular that there are adequate measures against overloads in the radial direction (direction perpendicular to the slide shaft), which is considered to be weak on existing machines: this makes tough cutting possible, and also means that a consistent turned surface is generated. Roller Guides Now Used on all Sliding Axes Roller guides, which are characterized by high rigidity, are used on all slide guideways. Roller guides provide high rigidity and can operate quietly and smoothly owing to the fact that they have low elastic deformation under load, and that they have a wide contact area on the track.

Coolant Tank Restricts Heat Emissions The sealed construction of the coolant tank minimizes the effects of thermal expansion on the casting due to heat radiation from the coolant.

Convenient Operation Assured

Air Sealing The rotary guide bushing and front and back spindle bearings are equipped with air seals as standard, which prevents the entry of cutting fluid inside them; they tolerate water-soluble cutting fluids. Centralized Lubrication Unit Installed as Standard The ball screws, roller guides and guide bushing drive units of all axes are centrally lubricated, making routine manual lubrication unnecessary.

Control Panel Layout The control panel can swivel, making it easier to check inside the machining chamber while performing operations.

PC Card Slot NC programs can be input and output by using the PC card slot on the front face of the operation panel.

Product Separator The separator uses the chute system for collection. It can handle products up to 80 mm in length, unloading them to the front.

Product Receiver Box The large capacity product receiver box reduces the need for constant clearing.

Large Capacity Coolant Tank A 150-liter, large capacity coolant tank is equipped as standard, allowing long periods of continuous operation.

Coolant Nozzles Discharge ports are also provided on the sleeve holders and can be used as nozzles for hole drilling operations.

Chip Compartment The spacious chip compartment has an oversized door which makes cleaning easy.

In-machine Lighting The included florescent lamp inside the machine provides excellent visibility for a user-friendly work environment.

Simplicity for Ease of Operation

On-machine Program Check Function This function allows you to execute an NC program forward and in reverse using manual handle feed; after stopping temporarily during the check, you can edit the program and re-run it to check the operation.

Text Size Changes Two levels of text size can be set on each screen (the screen shown here is displaying the larger text size).

Code List Display You can display a list of G, M, and T codes that even gives explanations of the arguments, to help you write NC programs.
