A graph is called nonseparable if it is connected, nontrivial and contains no cutpoints. A block in a graph G is a maximal nonseparable subgraph - that is, a nonseparable subgraph that is not properly contained in any other nonseparable subgraph of G. A nonseparable graph is itself often called a block. K2 is a block, but obviously no other block can contain a bridge.
