A Dozen Ways I gave a dozen pretty roses To this lady friend I know (Were they meant for her birthday Or, ways to let my feelings show?) I thought I saw the glisten Of a tear there, in her eye She walked to me, hugged, said, "Thank you." And my spirits soared, up high. She said, "You really shouldn't have." "But, only God in heaven knows I've been waiting all my life For, that fragrance, from a rose." I found it hard, to believe She'd never held, a red bouquet That, she'd never heard the many things A dozen roses just might, say. They're a way to tell a lady That, she's wonderful, she's neat Twelve ways to say she's soft and warm And, beautiful and sweet. This one, deserves a million Or at least, a dozen, every day But, even then they wouldn't be enough To say what, I'd like to say. Del “Abe” Jones 90s
