The Day of the Lord 1. 19 References in the Old Testament a. Near historical judgments b. Far eschatological judgments c. Day of doom d. Day of vengeance 2. New Testament calls it day of “wrath”, day of “visitation”, “Great Day of God Almighty” This is the day in which the wrath of God is unleashed! a. Revelation 19:11-21 (2nd Coming – Armageddon) b. Revelation 20:7-15 (Great White Throne) This DAY signals three things: a. The end of the world (man’s control) b. The crowning of the King (God’s control) c. The final judgment “Times” = “chronos” = calendar “Dates” = “kairos” = events Both plural nouns = many unfolding events Some of these events 1. The rapture of the church 2. The rise of the Antichrist 3. The Salvation of Israel 4. The opening of the seals 5. The sounding of the trumpets 6. The bowl judgments 7. The Second Coming of Jesus 8. The battle of Armageddon 9. The 1,000 year reign 10. The binding of Satan 11. The release of Satan 12. The final stand 13. The Great White Throne 14. The new heaven and the new earth
