A clock looses 20 minutes per day. It showed right time at 5.15 on 9-6-8. what will be he correct time, when the clock shows 8.41 am on 11-6-8 • Let us take a hypothetical example: • After 24 hours, the clock will show 4.55 pm, when actually time will be 5.15 pm. Here we can see that when real time has increased by 24*60 minutes, the clock has added 23*60 + 40 minutes. The ratio is 1440:1420. with this same ratio, we have: 39 hours and 26 minutes of gap, so real time will be: 1440/1420*(39*60+26) = 2399 or 2400 approx. 2400/60 gives us 40 hours. Thus at that time real time will be 9.15 AM Ans.

A can do a work in 10 days, he works for 2 days, the remaining work is done by B in 4 days, Who is more efficient. If A & B together work on similar work, how much time will it take? • A’s one day’s work = 1/10, 2 days = 2/10 • Remaining work = 8/10, this is 4 days work, one day’s work = 8/10*1/4 = 1/5 • He will complete the work in 5 days. B is more efficient. Totol time by both: 1/10+1/5 = 15/50, reverse it: 50/15 =3.33Ans. www.afterschoool.tk

A & B can do a work in 8, B+C in 12 B alone can do it in 18 days. In how many days A+C can do it?

• C can do it in :1/12-1/18= 6/216 =1/36. • A = 1/8-1/18 =10/144 • A+C = 1/36+10/144 = 14/144 • Reverse it : 144/14 = 10.3 approx.

LCM of two numbers is 168, sum of the 2 numbers is 140, what are the numbers? • Let us take factors of 168: • 2*2*2*3*7. The numbers can be : • X + Y = 140; possible combinations are (which are in multiple of 2/3/7) • 84 & 56; 28 + 112 etc. Here factors of 84 are: 2*2*3*7 & factors of 56 are 2*2*2*7 which is as per our requirements. But the factors of 28 are 2*2*7 and that of 112 are : 2*2*2*2*7, which is not as per our requirements. • Ans: 84 & 56

Ratio of income & expenses is 5:4. Ratio of income to income of previous year is 10:9. Expenses of 2008 exceeded income of 2006 by 500, what was the income in 2006?

• Let us assume income of 2006= 9000, income of 2007, 10000, & 2008 = 11111.Expenses of 2008 = 8888. • The difference of 9000 – 8888 = 112 • If the difference is 112, income is 9000, • =9000*500/112 = 40178 approx. www.afterschoool.tk

If X +X/4 = 4, what is X? • • • •

X/1 +X/4 = 4 is equal to (4X +X)/4=4 4X +X = 16; 5X = 16 X = 3.2 Ans.

X +4/X= 4, what is X? • • • • • •

X^2+4=4x X^2 -4X+4 = 0 X^2 -2x -2x +4 =0 X(x-2) -2(x-2) =0 X-2 =0 X=2 Ans. www.afterschoool.tk

5th part of a number exceed 7th part by 10. What is the number? • • • • •

Let us assume the number = x 5th part = x/5; 7th part = x/7 x/5 – x/7 = 10; 2x /35 =10; x = 350/2 = 175 X = 175 ans.
