A Look Back Wow, what a busy week! We got into 3rd grade full swing this week. While is does take a few days to get accustomed to 3rd grade expectations, our class seems to be adjusting well. We are continuing to work on beginning work immediately and following and listening to directions the first time. Reinforcing the importance of following directions at school is always appreciated. We have begun our assignment books. You will continue to see those come home each night; please be sure to sign them. Homework in math will also continue to come home each Tuesday and Thursday. Help your student remember to bring back math books every day. In math,
this week, we reinforced 2nd grade skills of addition and subtraction with regrouping. We also added in subtracting with zeros in the top number. So far the students are doing really well. We read chapters 1-4 of Horrible Harry Moves to Third Grade in reading. We
worked on understanding the scientific process (method) and conducted a plant experiment. During writing, we worked on understanding how to use a graphic organizer and turning it in to a rough draft. We also completed a final writing called How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Stop by and check out our writing in the hallway. If you get a chance, go to the class website and fill out the short survey if you haven’t already. If you don’t have access to internet, drop me a note and I can help. check up (test) on Friday to end up the week. During reading, we will bring Horrible Harry to a close with chapters 5 – 7, some thick and thin questions, and a final project to compile everything we learned. In writing, we
will begin working on “All About Me” papers. I anticipated starting this week, however we ran a little behind schedule. Again, these always end up being fascinating papers! I can’t wait for you to be able to read them. We will begin working on a unit in science learning about plants,

Next Week Cont. plant parts, and their jobs. Another milestone for next week will be the bringing home of portfolios. Your child will begin bringing that home on Thursday of each week. There will be a paper in the front with notes from me and a place for you to sign. Please make sure those come back Friday morning as we use them every day. Don’t forget to
study the spelling words for the pre-test on Monday.

Ask your child these questions to reinforce what we learned this week. The answers are here also so you can help them if they get stuck. This is a great way for them to teach you what they learned in class this week! The more they teach something to someone, the better they know it. Put the steps of The Scientific Process in order.
