Prepare the area to be used for mixing the chemicals.

Clean the area and utensils used for mixing.

Consult WHMIS guidelines and recommendations for personal protective equipment with regard to the particular chemical or chemical compound being mixed.

Skin irritation or burns

Wear gloves and water resistant apron or clothing

Eye irritation or burns

Wear goggles. Easy access to eye wash station.

Fumes and chemical dust

Proper ventilation

Inhalation

Wear mask or ventilator. Work in well-ventilated area. Clean spills immediately to reduce powder residues.

Splashing

Wear rubber gloves and water-resistant apron/clothing.

Spills

Follow WHMIS specifications for the chemicals being mixed.

Skin irritation and chemical burns

Flush area immediately with plenty of running water. Consult a physician.

Adhere to WHMIS specifications particular to the chemical(s) being mixed.

Flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Consult a physician.

Contamination of chemicals being mixed

Clean area completely prior to and after mixing. Use clean, uncontaminated instruments for mixing. Clean up according to WHMIS specifications.

Store in clean containers according to WHMIS specifications.

Spills

Follow WHMIS specifications for clean-up. Store chemicals in storage containers as recommended by WHMIS information.

Follow WHMIS specifications for clean-up and prevention.

Label containers clearly and apply approved chemical identification safety labels.

Inhalation of dried chemical residue

Wash area down with plenty of clean water.

Residual waste (rubber gloves, towels, packaging)

Dispose of according to WHMIS specifications.

Ingestion of chemicals

Wash hands with soap under plenty of running water.
