HRM ASSESSMENT Submission Date: 12th of January 2018 Length: 2,000 words Format: Essay (Properly researched and referenced using the Harvard system) Task: You are required to write an essay critically examining the HR function and, drawing from the key principles of HRM, assess how the HR function can help organizations to be more effective in achieving competitive advantage. Drawing on the frameworks and concepts introduced in the lecture series, you should focus on:     

The nature and characteristics of HRM; People management strategies, procedures and tools; Wider organizational implications and contributions of HRM in practice; Current patterns and trends in the approach to HRM in the organisation and sector of your choice; Relevant survey data, case studies or any recent discussion which highlights approaches to HRM will be useful here. What seem to be the key HRM issues and problems confronting management in this organisation and sector at the moment?

You are free to select an organisation of your choice (Google, Samsung or Apple) to use as a case study to illustrate your points. Always remember the constraints of access to relevant recent research. Assessment Criteria Assessment will be based on the following, and relate to all learning outcomes:      

Demonstration of an analyse and critical evaluation of the nature and characteristics of HRM; Identification of appropriate people management strategies, procedures and tools for achieving competitive advantage in the workplace; Awareness of key concepts of HRM and SHRM; A reflection and evaluation of the wider organizational implications and contributions of HRM in practice; A quality essay presentation, including structure, grammar and all material must be correctly referenced using the Harvard system. At least 15 references.
