Glossary of Terms To better understand the information presented in this section, you should familiarize yourself with the following terms. Composite Video - Video in which all its parts are mixed together into one signal that can be transmitted over a 2-conductor cable. In Frameworx Scoring Systems, the term composite video usually refers to the VCR video. Global Audio - Audio that is available to all lanes. In Frameworx Scoring Systems this term refers to the VCR and intercom audios. Global Video - Video that is available to all the LGPs. In Frameworx Scoring Systems this term refers to the VCR video after it is converted from a composite signal to RGBS. LGP (Lane Group Processor) - A collection of circuit boards located either on the curtain wall between a pair of pinsetters (Teamworx and Touchworx) or in the lower portion of a Primary Console (Uniworx and Powerworx). Together these boards perform most of the tasks needed to operate a lane pair. LLAN (Local Local Area Network) - A term used to describe the communication used by a LGP to communicate to the circuits boards within a lane pair. It is referred to as a local LAN because it is exclusive to a lane pair. Another name for the serial communication used in a lane pair. Also referred to as RS-485. Remote Video PCB - A circuit board located in the LGP that controls the video going to the overhead monitor. RGBS - Color video that has its parts separated into four signals that are sent over four different cables (wires). R-Red, G-Green, B-Blue, S-Sync. Each monitor in Frameworx Scoring Systems must be sent video in this format. Rockworx - Optional audio equipment separate from the Frameworx Scoring Systems that provides music and PA audio for the bowling center for special events such as Rock N Bowl. Serial Communication - A communication scheme in which information is sent over a group of wires one piece at a time. TV-Only Monitors - Optional overhead monitors that are dedicated to showing the TV/VCR video only. Windows NT - An operation system for computers that was developed by the Microsoft® Corporation for computers used in a network environment.

CenterMaster 1

Overview Control of the Frameworx Scoring System is accomplished by a group of components known as CenterMaster. The CenterMaster system is made of one or more computers running Microsoft Windows NT operating system. Programs on these computers allow the user to assign and cash out lanes, program system information such as prices, and perform functions such as financial reports and league processing. Additional components in the CenterMaster system may include: an intelligent cash drawer, a customer display, a VCR, an audio/video input, receipt printer(s), Ethernet hub(s), intercom handset/switch box(es), and optional computer programs. Refer to figures titled CenterMaster Upgrade Configuration 1, CenterMaster Upgrade Configuration 2, CenterMaster Upgrade Configuration 3, CenterMaster Upgrade Configuration 4, for factory shipped installation; CenterMaster Configuration 1, CenterMaster Configuration 2, CenterMaster Configuration 3, and CenterMaster Configuration 4.

CenterMaster Computer(s) The CenterMaster computer(s) are the central point of the control system. The computer(s) contain either a Pentium II or Pentium III microprocessor, a large capacity hard drive, and utilizes a Windows NT operating system. The actual number and location of the computers depends on the bowling center’s needs. (All installations will have at least one computer located at the control desk.) Loaded on the computers are the programs needed to run the system, as well as optional programs used for specific functions. These programs may include: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

Additional components that may be found in a CenterMaster computer include an Iomega Zip drive for system backups, and a CDROM drive. The computer is designed for universal input voltage which means it can operate with an input of 110 VAC or 220 VAC. Although operating voltage is normally set when the computer is installed, it may be necessary to set it when replacing the computer. To select the voltage, simply slide the selector switch located on the back of the computer near the power input receptacle, so the desired voltage can be read on the selector. Refer to the figure titled Rear Panel Connectors and Voltage Switch shown later in this section.

CenterMaster 11

Connections The computer controls all aspects of the Frameworx scoring system and, therefore, connects to many devices. To do this, the computer contains standard connections for power, a keyboard, a mouse, display monitor, printer, and modem, as well as connections for network communications. The front of the computer contains typical controls and indicators found on most computers. Refer to figures titled Typical Front Panel Connectors and Controls and Typical Rear Panel Connectors and Voltage Select Switch.

Floppy Disk Drive - Diskette drive used to load software updates.

Server Computer: The BNC connector connects to the scoring system hub(s) located on the curtain wall near the pinsetters and the CenterMaster client hub (if installed). The RJ-45 connection is not used on the CenterMaster server. Client Computers: The RJ-45 connector attaches to the CenterMaster client hub. The BNC connector is not used.

VGA Color Monitors The VGA color monitor allows the operator to get information from the CenterMaster computer. Through this terminal, the operator can perform all the functions needed to operate the Frameworx scoring system. This includes assigned and cashing out lanes, programming prices, sales tax, colors and other bowling information, and setting up and processing leagues or financial reports. Monitors are available in 15” and 17” sizes, with the 15” also available in a touchscreen version.

Pole Display The pole display shows the amount of money a customer owes as well as the amount of change the customer will receive. The type of display installed in the center depends on wether the CenterMaster system is a Command Network upgrade.

Pole Display Non-Upgraded Systems Non-upgraded systems pole display connect directly to the client of server computer. An additional terminal on the display allows the connection of the receipt printer to the display. See figure titled Pole Display - Non Upgraded Systems.

Cash Drawer The primary function of the Cash Drawer is to provide a place to put money received from customers and cause the automatic turning on/off of the lanes. For the convenience of the control desk operators, the cash drawer opens automatically whenever a payment key, such as “cash” is selected. If the operator is assigning or cashing-out a lane, the pinsetter and scorer will turn on or off when the drawer is closed.

Cash Drawer Upgraded Systems In order to perform its function, the cash drawer must communicate with the CenterMaster computer it is connected to. For upgraded systems this is done through a 4-conductor telephone cable typically attached to serial port 2 on the computer and the Com connector on an adaptor board located on the back on the cash drawer assembly. For upgraded system the cash drawer also provides power to light the digits on the pole display. Refer to the figure titled Intelligent Cash Drawer Upgraded Systems - External View.

The functions of the connections on the intelligent cash drawer are: Keylock (front of drawer) - Press the keylock to gain access to the inside of the drawer in case of a failure in the Frameworx scoring systems. The locking feature prohibits unauthorized opening of the drawer. COMM (rear of drawer) - Connection to the CenterMaster computer. The computer communicates through the drawer through this connection. DISP (rear of drawer) - Connection for the customer display. Power (rear of drawer) - Connection for main power to the drawer. The input to this connection is supplied by a plug in the transformer. The voltage level entering this connection is 12 VAC.

Cash Drawer Non-Upgraded Systems For non - upgraded systems the cash drawer connects to the computer through a serial connection on the receipt printer. (The printer attaches to the pole display which then attaches to the computer) Refer to figure titled Cash Drawer Non-Upgraded System.

Beeper Box The intercom beeper assembly provides an audible indication whenever an intercom request is received from a console. The box is connected to the audio/video unit through a 6-conductor telephone cable and to the handset box via a 4-conductor cable. A volume control on the assembly allows the control desk operator to adjust the volume level of the beep. Refer to the figure titled Beeper Assembly.

Intercom Handset/Switch Box The intercom handset/switch box allows an intercom handset to connect to the Frameworx scoring systems. The box connects to the audio/video unit through an intercom beeper assembly and provides a telephone style intercom handset that allows the operator to have a two-way conversation with a bowler standing at a scorer console. Up to four boxes can be connected to the audio/ video unit. Inside each intercom handset/switch box is a circuit board that handles all the functions for the intercom. This board is called the Handset Interface PCB. Refer to the figure titled Handset Interface PCB (Part No. 57-300183-000).

The function of the components on the Handset Interface PCB are:

Audio In/Out (J1) - Telephone type connector (RJ-11) used to connect the box to the audio/video unit. This allows the transfer of the “audio” to and from the Frameworx scoring systems.

Hook Switch (J2) - Connection to the hook switch located in the box. Closing this switch causes the intercom audio going to the console to be muted. In some installations, this switch is disconnected.

(3)

Handset Speaker (Term 1) - Connection to the speaker in the earpiece of the handset.

Internal Inside the audio/video control unit there are two main boards: the Composite to RGB PCB (Video PCB) and the Audio PCB. The Composite to RGB PCB is responsible for adapting the VCR video to the Frameworx scoring systems. Once adapted, the video is referred to as global video. The Audio PCB adapts the VCR audio and the intercom audio(s) to the Frameworx scoring systems. This audio is referred to as global audio. These boards are powered by an external power supply. Composite to RGB PCB The Composite to RGB PCB is responsible for converting the video originating at the VCR to a format that the system can use. As the name implies, the PCB converts the composite signal that comes from the VCR into an RGBS format. This RGBS video is sent to the remote video boards in the LGP and the TV-Only monitors (if present). Audio PCB The Audio PCB is responsible for interfacing the VCR audio and up to four intercoms to the Frameworx scoring systems. The VCR audio (global audio) is amplified by the PCB prior to being sent out to each LGP. The PCB interfaces the intercom audios to the system by allowing simultaneous conversation between the Control Desk and the bowlers. In addition, the PCB allows the bowler and the control desk to talk at the same time, eliminating the need to press a button to talk or listen. Ethernet Hub The Ethernet hub changes the 10Base-2 communication cable coming from the CenterMaster computer to 10Base-T cables so that individual LGPs and other CenterMaster computers can be connected. Typical Ethernet hubs split the communication into 16 10Base-T branches allowing one LGP Ethernet hub to provide communications for 32 lanes. If more than 32 lanes are present, additional Ethernet hubs can be added as long as the total cable length does not exceed 185 m (630’). The cable connecting the hubs is terminated at each end with a 50 Ω terminator. Refer to the figure titled Ethernet Hub Cabling.
