Co-op Seminar 2- Syllabus Assignment # 3

Informational Interview and Thank You Letter Due Date: June 2, 2008 at Noon Contact at least one person ( who is NOT a family member or current Cincinnati State employee) working in your major. Set up an appointment with them to learn more about your career field. Explain that the purpose of your interview is for a course assignment and that the information will be presented in class. Your assignment MUST include: 1. Outline of your major/career field and the person interviewed their title and company name. 2. List of 10-12 interview questions covering item # 3 below. 3. Overview of career field including: interview highlights, job information, typical day on the job, work environment, stressors and rewards of position, educational requirements, industry trends & changes, future job outlook, etc.

4. Your summary & comments on the value & helpfulness of the information gathered on your career field: Note: you should also include some “library” research on salary levels, future outlook for jobs, etc., and these findings should be compared & contrasted with the “personal” information obtained during the interview. 5. Get the names & contact information of 2 or 3 additional professional contacts (referrals) in the same career field from the person you interviewed that you could follow up with in the future (REQUIRED) 6. Attach a copy of the actual Thank You Letter AND Envelope that you sent to the person( s) interviewed (REQUIRED) 7. Oral presentation (including PowerPoint slideshow) to class (10-12 minutes in length). Notes & visual aides permitted. Students CANNOT simply read straight from paper or PowerPoint slides! Assignment must be typewritten, double-spaced, a maximum of 5 pages in length (including list of questions), 10-12 point size with 1” margins.
