System Overview

The Frameworx Scoring System is divided into six configurations (previously referred to as Solutions). This section previews the equipment used in each configuration and shows how they are connected together. The equipment's function and location are also explained.

Glossary of Terms In this section, the following terms are used. To better understand the information presented in this section you should familiarize yourself with these terms. Ceronix Overhead Monitor - An overhead monitor that is used to display the scorer console video. Bowler Entry Station - The keyboard pedestal used in the Teamworx configuration that allows the bowler to enter all the information and selections as a full scorer console, but does not have the lower monitors. Ethernet - A communication protocol used by a group of computers to share information. Hub - A device that modifies the transmission signals or cables in a network so that they can extend to additional devices. In Frameworx Scoring Systems, the Hub changes the Ethernet 10Base-2 cable to a 10Base-T cable style. These can then attach to 16 LGPs. (LGP) Lane Group Processor - The electronic circuit board assembly that allows operation of a lane pair. This chassis is located on the curtain wall in installations that do not include a scorer console. If the installation includes a scorer console, the LGP boards are located in the Primary Console. (LLAN) Local Local Area Network - A term used to describe the communication used by an LGP to communicate to the circuit boards within a lane pair. It is referred to as a local LAN because it is exclusive to a lane pair. Primary Scorer Console - The console in Powerworx, Touchworx, and Laneworx configurations that contains the LGP in addition to its own circuitry. This is usually the console for the left pinsetter. (RGBS) Red, Green, Blue, Sync - A format of video describing the way in which the video is sent over the cable. Secondary Scorer Console - The console in the Laneworx, Powerworx, and Touchworx configurations that contains limited circuitry for its own use. This console does not contain the LGP (Reference Primary Scorer Console definition). TV Only Monitor - An overhead monitor that is used to display only the video cassette recorder (VCR or TV) video. This monitor cannot display scorer console information.

Skyworx The Skyworx configuration (previously referred to as Solution 1) provides the least interaction between the bowler and scoring equipment. The configuration includes a Lane Group Processor (LGP) located on the curtain wall between a pair of pinsetters and an overhead monitor. All bowler information, score corrections and other bowling functions are done at the Control Desk. The Control Desk equipment includes either a Desk Command or a Command Network System. Additional equipment used in Skyworx includes: an Ethernet Hub and Pinsetter Interface Box with a CCD Scanner (or pinsensor). Refer to the two figures titled Skyworx Overview.

Teamworx The Teamworx configuration (previously referred to as Solution 3) provides full interaction between the bowler and scoring equipment. Like Skyworx, the configuration includes an LGP located on the curtain wall between a pair of pinsetters and an overhead monitor. In addition, a full function keyboard is added for bowler input. This keyboard provides all entry options for a bowler including language selection, special feature selection, name entry, and score correction. All entry options are still available at the Control Desk. The Control Desk equipment includes either a Desk Command, Command Network System, or Cashworx System. Additional equipment used in Teamworx includes: an Ethernet Hub, Pinsetter Interface, CCD Scanner (or pinsensor), and a CMS Audio Box. Refer to the figures titled Teamworx Overview.

Powerworx, Touchworx Consoles Like the Teamworx configuration, the Powerworx and Touchworx console configurations (previously referred to as Solution 5) consist of two lower color consoles for each lane and an LGP located in the Primary Console. Powerworx, however, includes overhead monitors. When the consoles are equipped with Touchscreen instead of typical keyboards, the system is referred to as Touchworx consoles. As in Laneworx, all bowler functions and entry options are available at the console or at the Control Desk. The Control Desk equipment includes either a Desk Command, Command Network or Cashworx System. Additional equipment used in the configurations includes: Ethernet Hub(s), Pinsetter Interface Boxes, with CCD Scanners (or pinsensors), and a CMS Audio Box. Touchworx Flatscreens The Touchworx flatscreen configuration is equipped with two table or floor mounted touch-sensitive color LCD displays that allow the bowler to directly select options by simply touching the screen. These screens receive power, video and communication from a Touchworx controller located under the ball rack near the back of the approach. As in the other configurations, additional equipment such as Ethernet hubs, Pinsetter Interface Boxes, CCD Scanners, overhead monitors, and a Control Desk system can be connected as needed. Bowler’s Area The Bowler’s Area contains all of the components needed by the bowler to provide automatic scoring for a lane pair and allow the scoring unit to communicate to the office computer. Components that are found in the Bowler’s Area differ between each Solution and may include: Overhead Monitors Scorer Consoles Bowler Entry Station

Overhead Monitors (Skyworx, Teamworx, Powerworx, Touchworx, and Uniworx [Optional]) An overhead monitor is used to provide the bowler with a large display of his/ her name and scores or an optional display of television or VCR video. The monitors used with Frameworx are single lane units that can be arranged individually, in pairs or as a triple configuration that includes a TV only monitor. The two types of monitors available are referred to as the Ceronix Monitor and a TV only monitor. The Ceronix Monitor is primarily used to show the scoresheet and other bowling displays but can also show the TV/VCR video generated by the VCR located at the Control Desk. The TV Only Monitor, as the name implies, can show only TV/VCR video.

Scorer Console s (Laneworx, Powerworx, Touchworx Console, and Uniworx) The Laneworx, Powerworx, and Touchworx console configurations include Primary and Secondary Consoles. The Primary Console is a full scorer console which contains a 13" monitor. In the Touchworx configuration this screen is touch sensitive. This console is usually used to control the left lane of a lane pair. It is referred to as the Primary Console because it contains the LGP in addition to its normal circuit boards. This console can be thought of as the “master” console of a lane pair because the LGP is used by both consoles. Refer to Lane Group Processor later in this section. Like the Primary Console, the Secondary Console is a full featured scorer console that contains a 13" color monitor. This console is typically the one used to control the right lane of a lane pair. It is referred to as the Secondary Console because it only contains the circuits needed to control its own keyboard and speaker. This console can be thought of as the “slave” because it must rely on the LGP, located in the primary (master) console, for obtaining and processing information. Additional circuits in the Secondary Console supply the Pinsetter Interface Box and scanner with power.

The Uniworx configuration includes only the Primary Console. Special programming allows the user to select the left or right lane before entering information.

Bowler Entry Station/Keypad (Teamworx Only) The Bowler Entry Station is a full function keyboard that allows the bowler to enter all information needed to begin bowling or change/correct information once bowling has begun. The use of an entry station gives the bowler complete control over bowling functions without the cost or space required for a full scorer console. Entry options include names, score corrections, special features, and language selection.

Flatscreen (Touchworx Only) The flatscreen is a touch-sensitive LCD display that allows the bowler to directly select options by simply touching the screen. The screens are supplied with power and are controlled through a Touchworx controller unit mounted under the ball rack.

Pinsetter Area The pinsetter area contains equipment used to interface the pinsetter and office computer to the lane pair. This equipment is typically mounted on a panel attached to the curtain wall or to the pinsetter itself. Equipment may include: Ethernet Hub(s) Pinsetter Interface Box CCD Scanner, Camera, and Processor Pinsensors Lane Group Processor (LGP)

Ethernet Hub(s) (All Configurations) The Ethernet Hub allows communication from the office computer to branch to the individual LGPs. Different Hubs are available. The typical hub splits communication into 16 branches allowing one hub to provide communication for 32 lanes. If more than 32 lanes are present, additional hubs are used for smaller centers.

Pinsetter Interface Box (Configurations with CCD Scanners or Pinsensors and Configurations with GS Series Pinsetter installed before June 1999) The Pinsetter Interface Box is located on the curtain wall near each pinsetter. This component is controlled by the LGP and is responsible for: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Turning the pinsetter on/off. Monitoring pinsetter cycles. Interfacing the scanner (or pinsensor) to the LGP. Interfacing the “GS” Family Pinsetters to the LGP for installation prior to June 1998. Interfacing BowlerTrack to the LGP.

CCD Scanner Camera and Processor (All Configurations with A, A-2, AMF or Double Diamond Machines) A scanner is a device that is mounted between the lane pair on the ball return capping. The purpose of the scanner is to count the pinfall and send this information to the LGP. By using the scanner, manual entry in not required of the bowler. Three types of scanners are currently in use: Model 79, Model 86, and CCD Scanner. This manual describes the CCD Scanner only. For information on Model 79, refer to publication part no. 17-900247-000. For Model 86 Scanner, refer to publication part no. 57-900204-000. The CCD Scanner uses a camera to take a picture of the pit area. This picture is then analyzed by the electronics of the scanner (reference Data Processor Box in the CCD section of this manual). During the analysis, the electronics look at specific areas of the picture for differences in brightness level. Each spot is further analyzed to determine its size and position. From this data, the scanner can determine if the spot is a pin. This information is sent to the LGP via the Pinsetter Interface Box to be processed and displayed on the monitors as pinfall.

Pinsensors (All Configurations with String Machines) A pinsensor is a circuit board that obtains pinfall information by using existing pinsetter desk/table switches. After reading the switches, the pinsensor sends this information to the scorer via the Pinsetter Interface Box for processing and to be displayed on the monitors as pinfall. Pinsensors are currently used on 5Pin String Machines and Duck Pin Machines.

Lane Group Processor (Skyworx, Teamworx, Touchworx Flatscreen) The Lane Group Processor (LGP) contains the circuit boards that control a pair of lanes and can be considered the “brain” of a lane pair. It handles calculations for scoring, video for the monitors, and communication to the Control Desk. In the Skyworx, Teamworx, and Touchworx flatscreen configurations the LGP is located on the curtain wall between each pinsetter pair. In the Powerworx, Laneworx, and Touchworx console configurations, the LGP is located inside one of the consoles (referred to as the Primary Console). To keep installations consistent, the Primary Console is usually the console for the left lane (odd numbered lane).

Control Desk Area The Control Desk area contains the equipment needed to operate and control Frameworx Scoring Systems. It may consist of: Display Terminal Dorio Unit Intelligent Cash Drawer CMS Audio/Video Unit Intercom Handset(s)

Scoresheet Printer(s) Magnetic Card Reader Receipt Printer(s) Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) CMS Computer (Cashworx Only)

Display Terminal The display terminal is used to input information to the office computer. Through the terminal, the Control Desk operator can perform all functions needed to operate Frameworx Scoring Systems. Some of these functions include: assigning or cashing-out lanes, turning on the intercom, selecting VCR video, and setting up operating characteristics such as prices and scorer monitor colors. The display terminal may be monochrome or color.

Dorio Unit (Desk Command/Command Network with Color Control Desk Terminals) The Dorio unit is used to adapt the information coming from the CMS computer so that a standard VGA color monitor, keyboard, and receipt printer with the CMS system.

Intelligent Cash Drawer The Intelligent Cash Drawer opens automatically at the proper time, giving the Control Desk operator a convenient place to put money received during transactions. In addition, the cash drawer interfaces an optional customer display to the system.

CMS Audio/Video Unit The audio/video (A/V) unit is used to adapt the intercom and VCR audio and VCR video to Frameworx Scoring Systems. Controls include a master volume control for the VCR audio.

Intercom Handset The intercom handset provides a convenient “telephone” style communication to each scorer console or Bowler Entry Station. The intercom base includes an on/off switch that automatically connects/disconnects the audio to the scorer.

Scoresheet Printer The scoresheet printer allows the Control Desk operator to obtain a hard copy of a bowler’s scores. Scoresheets can be printed for the current game as well as a specific number of previous games. Currently, scoresheets for the prior 48 hours can be printed.

Magnetic Card Reader (Optional) The magnetic card reader allows the use of magnetic cards to simplify the open play name into the scorer console. When the card is passed through the reader, the bowler’s information is accessed in the office computer’s open bowling program and the bowler is automatically put on a waiting list. When assigned to a lane, the bowler's name will automatically be sent to the console and the bowler’s scores will transfer back to the office computer.

CMS Computer (Cashworx Only) The CMS computer is responsible for all Control Desk and CMS functions, such as assigning or cashing out lanes and storing prices and monitor colors. The computer is also responsible for communication to the LGP for each lane pair so that information such as scores and frame information can be sent/ received. Attached to the CMS computer is a color terminal, keyboard, printer, and a modem.

Modem (Cashworx Only) The modem is a device that allows the CMS computer to communicate with another computer over telephone lines. The modem is typically used by the Brunswick Customer Response Center to correct problems that may arise in the CMS computer.

Office Area (Command Network and Desk Command Systems) The office area consists of a display terminal, printer, modem, keyboard, and high speed computer. This computer is responsible for all Control Desk functions, such as assigning or cashing out lanes, as well as storing prices and monitor colors. The computer is also responsible for communication to the LGP for each console so that information such as league lineups and scores can be sent/received. Additional features and programs installed on the office computer include: 1. League Record Service (LRS) 2. Daily Reporting System (DRS) 3. Locker Registration (Optional) 4. General Ledger (Optional) 5. Inventory (Optional) 6. Accounts Payable (Optional) 7. Tournament* 8. Open Play* 9. Payroll (Optional) 10. Mailing Lists (Optional) 11. Bowler Database* 12. Magnetic Card Writer (Optional) The magnetic card writer allows the creation of magnetic strip cards for use by the open play bowlers. When used with the magnetic card reader, the cards simplify open play name entry into the scorers. When the card is passed through the card reader at the Control Desk, the bowler is automatically put on a waiting list. When assigned to a lane, the bowler’s name will automatically be sent to the console and the bowler’s scores will transfer back to the CMS computer.

Modem The modem is a device that allows the CMS computer to communicate with another computer over telephone lines. The modem is typically used by the Brunswick Customer Response Center to correct problems that may arise in the CMS computer.
