June 29, 2008 Subject: 24 Hour Briefing THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS PRELIMINARY AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE Location: Caldwell County – North Carolina

Date of Occurrence: June 28, 2008 Preliminary Factual Findings: NC Division of Forest Resources Fire Line policy and procedure was being complied with, at the time of the accident. Injuries sustained by the injured were reported as non life threatening. Narrative: On June 28, 2008 NC Division of Forest Resources and BRIDGE personnel were working on the Green Rock fire in Caldwell County, N.C. At approximately 1630 HRS lightning struck the ground near the firefighters. This occurred when there was Blue Sky overhead. Eight firefighters were transported to Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, N.C. with non-life threatening injuries. One was later transported to Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. and one was treated and released from Caldwell Memorial. The remaining seven that were hospitalized remain in the hospital for observation on June 29, 2008.
