ADSL (Asymmetric DSL) Transmit asymmetric data stream: more going downstream to the subscriber less coming upstream back

 Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) was selected as the official line coding standard.  Suitable for Internet access,VoD and Interactive Services which are actually asymmetric in nature.  DSL is not a “Line” at all but a “Modem” technology. Typically a “Modem Pair”.
