Wehby, MD, Chair) 13 14 15Whereas, Public will and strong political forces are pushing to change the system of American 16medicine; and 17 18Whereas, The practice of medicine has always been and should remain in the control of 19physicians; and 20 21Whereas, The practice of medicine, both traditionally and practically, has been carried out as a 22private business enterprise under the control of the physician; therefore be it 23 24RESOLVED, That our American Medical Association adopt policy that government involvement 25in the practice of medicine must not force the participation of physicians, allowing their 26participation to remain voluntary (New HOD Policy); and be it further 27 28RESOLVED, That our AMA take action to officially reject any future attempt by individual state 29and/for federal legislative bodies to require acceptance of any private or government third party 30payments or contracts as a condition of licensure.
