Electricity Feed-in Premium Rate call for submissions On 30 October 2009, the Minister for Energy, Simon Corbell MLA, requested the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) to provide advice to assist with determination of the premium rate paid for electricity supplied by compliant renewable energy generators to the distribution network under the provisions of the Electricity Feed-in (Renewable Energy Premium) Act 2008. The referral is subject to the provisions of the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission Act 1997. The Commission has released an Issues Paper as the first step in the process of developing a model for guiding the determination of the rate for the period 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011, and on a mechanism for annual adjustments of the rate for the following four years. The Issues Paper is available at www.icrc.act.gov.au or through contacting the Commission’s office by telephone on 02 6205 0799 or by email on
[email protected] Written submissions on the Issues Paper are invited. The closing date for submissions is Wednesday 23 December 2009. Submissions should be sent to GPO Box 296, Canberra City ACT 2601 or to
[email protected], or may be lodged at the Commission’s offices at Level 2, 12 Moore Street, Canberra City.
40 km/h speed limits around shopping centres and community facilities The ACT Government is inviting the public to have their say on whether speed limits around busy retail and commercial precincts should be reduced to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. The proposal is in line with the Government’s commitment to improve road safety in the ACT. An independent review has been commissioned by the Government which has suggested a 40 km/h speed limit could improve the safety of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists in areas of high activity. The 40 km/h speed limit currently applies in school zones and we would like your feedback on whether this limit should be expanded to other areas of the ACT such as shopping centres and community facilities. A questionnaire is available from Canberra Connect Shopfronts, ACT Public Libraries and online at www.tams.act.gov.au under ‘Get Involved’. The public comment period closes on Friday 18 December 2009.
