Adult Learner’s Week “CELEBRATE” OUR STUDENTS March 28 to April 3 is: Adult Learner’s Week

An annual gathering of adult learners.

Media Release

Adult learners invite you to join them for a major annual gathering to honour the 1001 ways to learn! For the last six years, the Semaine québécoise des adultes en formation has helped to foster the desire and develop possibilities for lifelong learning for all adults in Québec. Hundreds of volunteer part-

ners organize free activities that highlight the experiences of adult learners and promote the various venues and methods for learning as well as the individuals and organizations devoted to adults education and training. This event is an invitation for one and all to join in a celebration of lifelong learning.

Message from the President When I was asked to take over the President’s position I was both terrified and excited. Terrified because so many things have grown and improved over the past few years in TLE and would I be able to keep up the good work? I am excited because now I can try some new adventures. Won’t you join me in trying new things, joining committees, and/or speaking out about literacy in our commu-

nity? As of December 17, 2008, the Board of Directors appointed me as Presidential successor to serve until the next AGM, at which time there will be an election by the membership. Thank you all. Lazar Jevremovic was also nominated for the position of Director and he graciously accepted. Thank you Lazar! Thank you for your confidence in me and I hope to gain your continued support. ~ Mona Arsenault

From the Executive Director’s Desk In 2008 I held Tutor Training workshops for our new volunteers and interested individuals from the community. During introductions, one of the participants men- Smudge was saved from an Industioned she worked as a trial site, living in cold and hunger with no shelter volunteer with Rabbit Rescue. She spoke of

the need for volunteers and foster homes for rabbits and other animals until they are adopted. As a result of this discussion, I’m happy to say my daughter and I are fostering a beautiful and gentle cat we

named Smudge (aka Betty) through Gerdy’s Rescues & Adoptions. This is a great way to welcome an animal, in need, into your home when having a pet permanently is not an option. If you or anyone you know may be interested in adopting or fostering an animal (cat, dog, rabbit) I will help you find the information!

Karen’s Office News HAPPY 2009 and good health to everyone. Tutors please, if you change your tutoring hours or are perhaps without a student, let me know so that we can match you again. We are looking for volunteers, if you know someone who may want to become a tutor, we would love to hear from them! Page 2

Spring Volunteer Voice Our last ‘Volunteer Voice’ was very well received and continued interest has been ongoing. We spoke on health issues about ourselves and what problems our students might come across. It brought up so many questions that one of our tutors has begun a dictionary of health terms. Others have added their input, and we

Feed the world while learning new words:

M. Arsenault

hope to make this document available to all. Why don’t you add some information about your own health issue, it may help someone else identify with their health problems. Our next Voice will be Thursday, March 26, 2009, 6:00 p.m. It will include time to just talk about your tutoring experiences. As well as adding ideas

to incorporate health issues into your teaching.

Come one come all to the ‘Spring Voice’.

Volunteer today to change someone’s life tomorrow! We are looking for general volunteers for TLE and volunteer tutors to work one-on-one or in small groups with adult learners.

Training sessions start soon!! The Learning Exchange/TLE
