THE SUMMIT FOUNDATION SURPASSES $11 MILLION IN GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS At a reception on Thursday June 25, The Summit Foundation announced the award of $432,729 in grants to 43 nonprofit agencies in Summit, Park, Grand, and Lake Counties. Over the past year, The Summit Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in grants and scholarships to organizations and students in Summit County and neighboring communities. The Summit Foundation Board of Trustees are also proud to announce that total grant and scholarship distributions to date surpassed $11.1 million. “Surpassing the million dollar mark in annual distributions is a significant accomplishment and provides essential support in difficult economic times,” said Cary Cooper, President, The Summit Foundation. “The Foundation is pleased and proud to be able to partner with all of the nonprofit organizations to provide vital services and improve the quality of life we all enjoy in the Summit County and in our neighboring communities,” notes Cooper. Of the $1,058,453 in distributions to the community, nearly $500,000 is going to scholarships and services for children, youth and families. Health care services, programs for the disabled and domestic violence programs received over $200,000 in funds, while programs for our schools and to improve the quality of life in our communities received $81,500 and support of basic needs for families received $76,500. “With the awarding of these grants and scholarships, The Summit Foundation reached a milestone in funding – awarding over $11 million since 1986,” notes Cary Cooper. “The Summit Foundation is delighted to be able to provide funding for programs that benefit our youth and those in need, such as food banks, utility and rental assistance, victims of domestic violence, hospice and home health services, dental care for low income patients, child care, forest and wilderness stewardship, recreation scholarships for low income children, music therapy, homework and tutoring programs, music in the schools and free concerts.”
