Dear Youth Bowlers, Parents, and Friends, Let me be the first to welcome you to the 4th Staten Island USBC Association Youth Champions Dinner. Tonight we will honor 60 youth bowlers for their achievements on and off the lanes. Under the direction of the Staten Island USBC Association, the Youth Committee is responsible for administering youth championship tournaments, the scholarship program, youth fundraising, an In-School Bowling program, the Registered Volunteer Program through our Safety First Initiative, and this youth champion’s dinner. The Youth Committee is committed to providing excellent programs and activities for our youth bowlers in the seasons to come. This year we will award over $4,500 in scholarships at this awards dinner. In addition, over $20,000 in scholarships has been awarded to our bowlers this past season through local tournaments and leagues. Most importantly, over the course of the season well over $100,000 in scholarships are available through numerous programs offered by our local, state, and national affiliates. I would like to extend my Congratulations to all the youth bowlers here this evening and as we enter our fifth operations season a special thank all the volunteer members of the Staten Island USBC Association youth program for their continued hard work and dedication to the youth bowlers of Staten Island

Norm Duke USBC Ambassador
Norm was the youngest person to win a Denny’s PBA Tour title, winning his first title in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1983 at just 18 years and 345 days. Since then he has won a total of 25 PBA Tour titles including two majors—the 1994 Tournament of Champions and 2000 PBA National Championship. He also won the 1993 USBC Masters. In 2003 Norm became the 15th bowler to roll a 300 game on a PBA telecast. A member of the USBC Hall of Fame, he is a two-time PBA Player of the Year and George Young High Average Award winner. He was the PBA’s Harry Smith Point Leader Award winner in 2005-06. With his 2008 U.S. Open win, Norm became just the second bowler in history to win the four Grand Slam events – the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Masters, Tournament of Champions, World Championship and the U.S. Open.

Charles DeHart Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Recipients The Charles DeHart Memorial Scholarship is presented to two individuals, one male and one female, graduating seniors who participate on their schools varsity bowling team and show commitment, sportsmanship, leadership, and have brought their teams to great lengths through their performance. Each high school bowling coach had the opportunity to nominate only one youth bowler from their team for this award.
