May 29, 2007 Welcome Youth Bowlers, Parents and Friends: It is my distinct pleasure, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Staten Island United States Bowling Congress Association, to welcome you to the 2nd Annual Youth Champions Dinner. To our youth directors and representatives; coordinators, coaches and volunteers; and the proprietors and staff; we add our warm welcome and thanks for all that you do to make this night possible. But it is our champion youth bowlers that we are here to recognize tonight. To you we say well done and congratulations as we recognize your accomplishments of this past year. Your parents, relatives and friends are here with you to celebrate and enjoy this evening with you. Dear Youth Bowlers, Parents, and Friends, Let me be the first to welcome you to the 2nd Staten Island USBC Association Youth Champions Dinner. Although this is the fourth dinner for our Staten Island Youth Champions, it is the second for our newly formed organization. In September of 2005 the Staten Island Y.A.B.A. and Staten Island Women’s Bowling Association dissolved their respective organizations to merge and form the Staten Island USBC Association. This new organization serves as the primary bowling membership organization for adult and youth bowlers on Staten Island. With this new organization came some changes. From a board of directors of twenty, a committee of ten, now twelve, volunteers represents the youth bowlers. Under the direction of the Staten Island USBC Association, the Youth Committee is responsible for administering youth championship tournaments, the scholarship program, youth fundraising, and this youth champion’s dinner. This committee is comprised of coaches, parents, league directors, youth bowlers, and proprietors. This amazing committee has worked together to make this past season another successful one. Just a friendly reminder… Please keep in mind all of the available opportunities that we offer our youth bowlers. This year we will be awarding over $3,000 in scholarships at this awards dinner. Most importantly over the course of the season over $100,000 in scholarships are available through numerous programs offered by our local, state, and national affiliates. In closing, I would like to extend my Congratulations to all the youth bowlers here this evening and thank all the volunteer members of the Staten Island USBC Association youth program for their continued hard work and dedication to the youth bowlers of Staten Island

Scholarship Recipients $500.00 Scholarship Awards

GARY M. RICCI, JR. A second time Staten Island USBC Association scholarship award recipient, Gary has been a USBC Youth member for 8 years. With a high game of 300 and a high series of 789 he finished this season with a 227 average. During his bowling career he has earned many awards and titles including: 11 Strikes-InA-Row, converted the 7-10 split, two-time Rab’s Country Lanes Junior Masters Tournament Champion. In addition to this scholarship award, Gary is a three time NYS USBC Youth Association scholarship award recipient for his academic and bowling accomplishments. He is a USBC Coaching Level 2 Bowling Coach; a Certified Swimming Instructor as well as a Karate Instructor, being a 1st and 2nd degree black belt himself. Gary also ran track and field in high school, setting a school record for the 4x100 meter relay. A member of the Monsignor Farrell Boys High School National Honor Society in 2004 & 2005. Some of his High School Academic Honors include: National Honor Roll 2004, AP Scholar with Honors Award, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. He is currently enrolled in the Honors Program at Saint John’s University carrying a 3.94 GPA and plans to major in Government and Politics. He is pursuing a career in Law.

MELISSA R. KAMMERER A senior at Curtis High School and a member of the Girls Varsity Bowling A Team for 4 years. This is her 12th year of participation in a certified youth program with a current average of 201 Melissa has bowled 2 - 300 games and sports a high series of 753. She was selected as a Staten Island Advance All Star all four years of high school. Melissa is an active member of the Staten Island USBC Association Youth Leaders Chapter and currently serves as the President and is also serving as the Vice President of the New York State USBC Youth Leaders Chapter. Among Melissa’s many bowling achievements she will be making her fourth consecutive appearance at the USBC Junior Gold Championships this year in Buffalo, New York. She has been accepted to Wichita State University where she will pursue a career in Sports Pshycology and plans to bowl on the highly accredited Womens Bowling Team.

Charles DeHart Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Recipients The Charles DeHart Memorial Scholarship is presented to two individuals, one male and one female, graduating seniors who participate on their schools varsity bowling team and show commitment, sportsmanship, leadership, and have brought their teams to great lengths through their performance. Each high school bowling coach had the opportunity to nominate only one youth bowler from their team for this award.
