Additional thoughts about our meetings for new and prospective members: Our normal meeting night is the 3rd Thursday of the months January through November. We have a Christmas party on a Friday or Saturday night in December in place of that month’s meeting. Our meetings start at 7:30 pm and usually run about one hour. In January, April, July and October, we gather at 7:00 pm for our quarterly dinner before the 7:30 Meeting. ============================================================================ Our sympathy: Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of our members that are in poor health. Jim McCall was in Baptist East Hospital with some fluid buildup around his heart, but is now improving at home. We regret to have to report that Bill Stout passed away August 31st. Bill was a long time member of our club. Bill was very helpful with our displays at the Kentucky State Fair. The Funeral was held at the Saint Pius Catholic Church and Bill was buried at the Calvary Cemetery on Bardstown Road. ============================================================================ This month’s feature is on our Club’s Vice President, Jimmy Hance. Pictured is Jimmy enjoying one of his passions, that of tractor pulls. Jimmy joined the Club in 2003 and has worked hard to put together a team of people that put on some of the finest antique tractor pulls in the state. The profits from these pulls are the basis for the strong financial position that our Club enjoys today. Jimmy and his team are a real asset to our Club and we wanted to take this time to thank Jimmy for his work. By the way, the pull team is always in need of help at these events, so you should make a point to attend some pulls and help where you can.

Upcoming Events: The Jeffersontown, KY Parade will be held on Thursday, September 17th. We will meet at 5:00 pm at the J-Town High School. The Parade starts at 6:00pm. An alternative staging location is the Maeser Plumbing parking lot located at 11101 Electron Drive in between Watterson Trail and Blankenbaker Parkway. The Club is providing a box dinner for all members that attend, but you will have to let Roger Cox know that you are coming so that he can get the right amount of food. Roger’s number is 502-210-3159. Special note: The Jeffersontown parade falls on the third Thursday in September which is our normal Club meeting night, so the regular Club meeting has been moved to the next Thursday, September 24th, 2009 at our regular meeting location. The Cropper Days Festival, presented by the Cropper Ruritan Club, will be held on Saturday, September 19th. Cropper is located on Highway 43 about 4 miles south of Pleasureville. There will be a parade at 10:30am so you should plan to arrive about 9:00am to get ready. There will be food, yard sales, antique tractor displays, classic cars, and a host of other festival activities. The fall DQ tractor show will be held at the Dairy Queen in Lagrange on Saturday, September 19th. This is a parking lot show that will include some free treats from DQ. Our understanding is that this is a afternoon show gathering at 4:00pm. There is plenty of parking across the street, and our member Gene Crady is the contact at 502-592-0341. Our Regular Club meeting will be held on September 24th at 7:30. This is one week later than usual, due to the J-town Parade. Hope to see you there. Note the date change. The Finchville Festival, parade and show will be held Saturday, September 26th at the Finchville Ruritan Club. They start cooking breakfast at 7:00am and it is a feast that will really get your festival day started in the right direction. The parade will start at 10:00am, so if you miss breakfast, you should still try to get there about 9:00am to get unloaded and set up for the fun. As always, there will be plenty of parking for your trailer rigs and tractors. After the parade, there will be more good food, tractor games, lots of children’s activities and an auction with many unique items. The auction proceeds help support the Festival, so stay late and bid high. (This year should be a great festival because Steve and Teresa spent so much at the auction last year.) Our member contact for this event is Stewart Stratton at 502-772-5262. A Plow Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th at the Scott Travis Farm with a rain date of Saturday, October 17th. Scott’s farm is located on Max Rouse Road off of Hwy 31 south of Mount Washington. On this plow day we will be “Plowing for a Cure” and raising money for Breast Cancer research. We have missed several Plow Days due to adverse weather in the past year. Lets hope that this one comes off as planned. We would like to have a large turnout for this event to support this cause, so come out even if you do not have a plow, and we will hook you up. Spectators are very welcome too.

In the last month, our members have participated in several events including: * A plow day hosted by our sister Club the Antique Iron Club of Lagrange Kentucky finally happened. The weather caused this event to be shifted to other dates. This shift in schedule did hurt the tractor and head count, but those that did attend had a fine day of plowing. * Our Club held our annual Club Picnic on the Finchville Ruritan Club grounds. Attendance was light, but the food was great and the fellowship was enjoyable. * A tractor drive hosted by our member Roger Brown with a lot of assistance from the Burkhead family. The weather was excellent and the drive, which covered several scenic back roads in Jefferson and Bullett County, included more than 50 tractors. All went very well. The food was tasty and the games were fun for the participants and entertaining for the spectators. Roger plans to do this event again next year, so be sure to put this event on your calendar. * An antique equipment show put together by our member Robert Yount. This was a great show with 69 tractors on display plus the pull tractors that came in for the evening pull. There were 4 working steam engines sawing, thrashing, bailing, crushing and pulling. There was a1941 Taylorcraft airplane and lots of horses and mules demonstrating the way things used to be done before the tractors came along. It was a fine show. Robert plans to put this show on again next year and it will be well worth your time to come out and see all of this equipment in action. ============================================================================ Several members have asked about listing antique power equipment and related items for sale in this news letter. We feel that listings of this nature would be of interest to our readers, therefore, we are happy to publish items as space permits. You may submit your listings to: Teresa Scherffius

Closing thoughts: Our Chaplin, Roger Cox has the quote of the day: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as he chooses, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2nd Corinthians 9-6 thru 9-7. It is hard to know about everyone that may be in poor health or have a special need in a Club of this size. So please try to pass along any concerns to Roger or one of the Officers so that we may get the word out. If you have any information for Roger, or need his service, feel free to contact Roger at: Cell 502-210-3159

or e-mail Roger at

[email protected].

============================================================================ Collecting correct information for the Newsletter is a never ending job. With the number of members that we have and with the fact that these members are located all over Kentucky and Southern Indiana, we should be able to know about every tractor related show that is going on. So PLEASE do your part, and keep us informed. You can e-mail us at [email protected] (Use “Tractor info” as the Subject) or you are welcome to call and leave a message at 502-244-5279. ============================================================================ Just a reminder, the Newsletter paper and printing are furnished by Bill French and his company
