Additional thoughts about our meetings for new and prospective members: Our normal meeting night is the 3rd Thursday of the months January through November. We have a Christmas party on a Friday or Saturday night in December in place of that month’s meeting. Our meetings start at 7:30 pm and usually run about one hour. In January, April, July and October, we gather at 7:00 pm for our quarterly dinner before the 7:30 Meeting. ============================================================================

Our sympathy: Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of our members that are in poor health. We regret to have to report that a member and good friend Bob Marshall passed away. Bob has been a member of this Club since 1993 when the Club was formed. Bob had an extensive background in farm equipment and was a wealth of knowledge on tractors and equipment. He also enjoyed antique cars and trucks and participated in several associated clubs. Our sympathy goes out to his wife, Dorothy and his family. Bob will be missed. ============================================================================

Upcoming Events: A Plow Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th at the Scott Travis Farm with a rain date of Saturday, October 17th. Scott’s farm is located on Max Rouse Road off of Hwy 31 south of Mount Washington. On this plow day we will be “Plowing for a Cure” and raising money for Breast Cancer Research. We have missed several Plow Days due to adverse weather in the past year. Lets hope that this one comes off as planned. We would like to have a large turnout for this event to support this important cause, so come out even if you do not have a plow, and we will hook you up. Spectators are very welcome too.

Upcoming Events continued: The Annual Glendale Parade and show will be held on Saturday, October 17th in Glendale, Kentucky. This is a fun event with lots of food, entertainment, and tractors. It is our understanding that the parade starts at 10:00am, so you will have to get started early to make the cut. Our member, Phil Worsley goes to this show regularly, so if you have questions about times, exits, or where to park, etc, you might want to give Phil a call. The annual Shelbyville Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 2009. We meet at the Shelbyville Fairgrounds at 9:00am to unload and stage for the parade. The Parade starts at 10:00am and Usually takes about one chilly hour to complete. It is always a cool ride, but well worth it to show the Club’s support for the event. The Annual Club Christmas Party is scheduled for Friday, December 11th at the Finchville Ruritan Club. This event includes a dinner for all members and their guests. We do require reservations for the dinner and you make your reservations may be made by sending your check for $25.00 per person, made our to the Salt River Antique Power Association, to Mary Prather at the address listed on the form below. As always, to motivate members to attend more Club events, the Club will return your check for each member that has attended at least six Club functions, (i.e. meetings, parades, shows, plow days, etc) in the past year. The checks will be returned only to those members that actually attend the dinner party. If you send a check and make a reservation, but do not attend, the club will cash your check because the food has already been prepared for you. This rule also states that a member attending the required 6 events may bring a guest, (husband, wife, child or significant other) and that guest will enjoy a free dinner as well. Additional guests may attend for the fee of $25.00 per person, accompanied by their reservation. **********************************************************************************************************

Membership news: Our Club continues to grow and is now boasting a record 152 members that have already signed up for 2009. As you know, we will accept membership applications anytime throughout the year. We will continue to keep you posted on our progress. ============================================================================

Just as a reminder, dues are $15.00 for the first member in a household, and $5.00 for other family members living at the same mailing address. If you want a membership application form that you can give to prospective members, please contact Steve Scherffius at 502-244-5279 or e-mail [email protected]. Spread the word. ============================================================================

In the last month, our members have participated in several events including: The Jeffersontown Parade. Our Club presented 14 tractors and the Club wagon in the parade and all the members that attended enjoyed a box lunch from KFC and a lot of good fellowship. The Simpsonville Parade. Our members were spread thin that weekend and brought only 3 tractors to the parade, and only 2 tractors actually participated in the parade because of a lack of drivers. The Taylorsville Parade. The Taylorsville Octoberfest (Formally the Taylorsville Homecoming) and parade was back on at the last minute and our Club did vote, at the September meeting, to participate, after some clarification about parade problems. There were about 20 tractors that participated and we did pull the Club wagon. This event was severely downsized this year, not just in tractors, but in the number of the parade participants as well as the spectators. Hopefully things will get back to normal for next year. ============================================================================ Several members have asked about listing antique power equipment and related items for sale in this news letter. We feel that listings of this nature would be of interest to our readers, therefore, we are happy to publish items as space permits. You may submit your listings to: Teresa Scherffius

Closing thoughts: Our Chaplin, Roger Cox has the quote of the day: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as he chooses, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2nd Corinthians 9-6 thru 9-7. It is hard to know about everyone that may be in poor health or have a special need in a Club of this size. So please try to pass along any concerns to Roger or one of the Officers so that we may get the word out. If you have any information for Roger, or need his service, feel free to contact Roger at: Cell 502-210-3159

or e-mail Roger at

[email protected].

============================================================================ Collecting correct information for the Newsletter is a never ending job. With the number of members that we have and with the fact that these members are located all over Kentucky and Southern Indiana, we should be able to know about every tractor related show that is going on. So PLEASE do your part, and keep us informed. You can e-mail us at [email protected] (Use “Tractor info” as the Subject) or you are welcome to call and leave a message at 502-244-5279. ============================================================================ Just a reminder, the Newsletter paper and printing are furnished by Bill French and his company
