Additional thoughts about our meetings for new and prospective members: Our normal meeting night is the 3rd Thursday of the months January through November. We have a Christmas party on a Friday or Saturday night in December in place of that month’s meeting. Our meetings start at 7:30 pm and usually run about one hour. In January, April, July and October, we gather at 7:00 pm for our quarterly dinner before the 7:30 Meeting. ============================================================================ At this month’s meeting we will be holding our annual elections for the 2010 year. You are encouraged to attend because we should actually have an election this time. As always, the nominating committee is given the difficult task of filling the required positions, let alone finding any extra people to run for office, but this year the committee has out done itself. Per a Club vote at the October, 2009 meeting, we shall elect a maximum of 7 members to the Board of Directors, and the nominating committee has come up with 9 volunteers willing to run for the office. Nominees for the Board of Directors include: Roger Cox

Dave Fiehtner

David Hardin

Jim McCall

Tim Prather

Paul Ruble

Stewart Stratton

Phil Worsley

Mark Payne

The nominating committee was not so successful in the hunt for Club Officers finding only one member to run for each of the positions. The slate for the officers includes: President; Scott LeCompte

Vice President ; Jimmy Hance

Secretary; Teresa Scherffius

Treasurer; Steve Scherffius

It should be noted that any member in good standing may be nominated from the floor at the time of the elections and, if they except the nomination, their name will be placed on the ballot.

The Annual Club Christmas Party is scheduled for Friday, December 11th at the Finchville Ruritan Club. Doors will open at 6:00pm and dinner will be served at 7:00pm. This event includes a dinner for all members and their guests. We do require reservations for the dinner and you can make your reservations by sending your check for $15.00 per person, made our to the Salt River Antique Power Association, to Mary Prather at the address listed on the form below. As you may have noticed, the Club voted to reduce the cost of the Christmas dinner from $25.00 to $15.00 since we have so many new members that might not have had a chance to make the needed 6 events to qualify for the free dinner. Several people have asked if they may bring other guests, (Friends, neighbors, future members, etc.) and as always, we definitely encourage you to include then on your list. As always, to motivate members to attend more Club events, the Club will return your check for each member that has attended at least six Club functions, (i.e. meetings, parades, shows, plow days, etc) in the past year. These checks will be returned only to those members that actually attend the dinner party. If you send a check and make a reservation, but do not attend, the club will cash your check because the food has already been prepared for you. This rule also states that a member attending the required 6 events may bring a guest, (husband, wife, child or significant other) and that guest will enjoy a free dinner as well. Additional guests may attend for the fee of $15.00 per person, accompanied by their reservation. This years Christmas Party will include a slide show with pictures from the many events that we enjoyed this year as well as a door prize drawing, a lot of fine food and a chance to visit with a lot of old and new friends that are a part of our Club. We ask that the membership make an effort to collect door prizes from the people that they do business with as well as from your attic or garage. Several of our members have come up with some really beautiful hand made pieces and some have come up with very interesting gag gifts and “white elephants”. **********************************************************************************************************

Membership news: Our Club continues to grow and is now boasting a record 152 members that have already signed up for 2009. As you know, we will accept membership applications anytime throughout the year. We will continue to keep you posted on our progress. ============================================================================

Just as a reminder, dues are $15.00 for the first member in a household, and $5.00 for other family members living at the same mailing address. If you want a membership application form that you can give to prospective members, please contact Steve Scherffius at 502-244-5279 or e-mail [email protected]. Spread the word. ============================================================================

Upcoming Event: The annual Shelbyville Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 2009. We meet at the Shelbyville Fairgrounds at 9:00am to unload and stage for the parade. The Parade starts at 10:00am and Usually takes about one chilly hour to complete. It is always a cool ride, but well worth it to show the Club’s support for the event. ============================================================================

Believe it or not, we finally had a plow day! Our theme, “Plowing for a cure”, with all proceeds going to the Susan G Koeman Breast Cancer Research foundation was a great success. We had over 35 tractors in attendance and several times we counted 26 tractors plowing in the field at once. We want to thank Lois and Julius Roemer (pictured on left, below) for being our Hosts for the day and the driving force behind the project to “Plow for the Cure”. We also want to thank the Scott Travis and his family for allowing us to enjoy such a beautiful valley and plow up so much ground. People started plowing early, and by lunch time we had already turned the 80 acre main field. Speaking of lunch, the Prather family (pictured on the right, below) did a fine job of serving a tasty hot lunch that included chili, hot dogs, burgers and steak sandwiches.

=========================================================================== Our Web Sight: Thanks to our high tech member, Misty Jewel, we have a really fine website that has a lot of very useful information about our club. There is a list of upcoming events as well as pictures from past events that you can enjoy. There is also a page on the history of our Club as well as a lot of other related interesting information. Our thanks to Misty for the fine work. The wed address is www.saltriverantiquepower.com. E-mail address is [email protected] ============================================================================ Closing thoughts: This year, 2009, has seen our Club grow to it’s largest membership ever which is responsible, in part, for the heightened level of enthusiasm and participation by our members. We were able to put on a June Show that any club would be proud of. We produced an excellent season of tractor pull events that earned the funds needed to keep our Club strong, while making a lot of new friends and club connections in the process. We participated in events that supported local schools and charities. We added value to our community, our neighbors and our selves. We also suffered the loss of some good friends including Bob Marshall, Bill Stout, Kiefer Maddox, Allen McCall, and Lillie May Monroe. We hope that you will keep these people and their families in your prayers. ============================================================================ Collecting correct information for the Newsletter is a never ending job. With the number of members that we have and with the fact that these members are located all over Kentucky and Southern Indiana, we should be able to know about every tractor related show that is going on. So PLEASE do your part, and keep us informed. You can e-mail us at [email protected] (Use “Tractor info” as the Subject) or you are welcome to call and leave a message at 502-244-5279. ============================================================================ Just a reminder, the Newsletter paper and printing are furnished by Bill French and his company
