Mr. Georg Kell Executive Director United Nations Global Compact Office United Nations N.Y. 10017 USA

Dear Mr. Kell, Thank you for your reply of 16 July. I'm very pleased to hear you dispel any perceptions that the UN Global Compact disapproves of the ISO 26000 project. ISO appreciates your support and the contribution that the UN Global Compact has made in the development of this Standard, including through your Local Networks. I concur that ISO 26000 will help to mainstream corporate responsibility on a global scale, and it will also provide harmonized, globally relevant guidance on social responsibility for private and public sector organizations of all types. Your views regarding the ISO 26000 Annex are important and to be considered by the Integrated Drafting Task Force in light of other comments received, and the path forward established after the Working Group discussions in Quebec City. I am pleased that, on the whole, you view that there is substantial consistency and complementarity between the current draft of the ISO 26000 and the Global Compact ten principles. Consistent with the mutually supportive approach embodied in our Memorandum of Understanding, and as we approach publication of the Standard in 2010, I look forward to discussing ways in which we can further cooperate on activities to promote and support implementation of the ISO 26000 Standard and the four topic areas of the Global Compact principles. Thank you for your support and I look forward to our further positive collaboration. Yours truly,

Rob Steele
