Lourdes Health Network is building a clinic for women and children near Road 68.

One more new food option near Road 68.

Work continues on the new Chiawana High School. Students will walk in the door just about a year from now.

A Year of Growth and Change for the Chamber Darrick Dietrich, President Pasco Chamber of Commerce

& New Businesses The Chamber is putting together gift bags full of items to give to new members and businesses that are new to Pasco. The bags serve as both a warm welcome and an opportunity to showcase your products and services. Members can deliver their materials to the Chamber Office. We all strive for progress. No one goes into a project intending to maintain the status quo or lose ground. And so it is with the leadership of the Chamber. Over the last year the Board of Directors and executive staff have worked to offer more real benefits and services to members. The result has been the creation of new business education and networking opportunities, an impressive list of relevant luncheon speakers, collaborative projects with other chambers and improved administration. As a result the Chamber is

stronger than it has been in years. We set a goal. We’re working together. And we’re getting there. The progress will continue. The annual election of officers takes place this month. Ten qualified, energetic candidates stepped up to run for six open positions on the Board. The quality in this group shows the strength and energy that is the Pasco Chamber. As I consider the current board members who continue on in their positions and the candi-

dates for board membership, I am confident that they will continue the work needed to build your Pasco Chamber into a strong community resource. This is my last letter to you as President of the Board of Directors. By the time the next newsletter comes out, current First Vice-President Ryan Brault will have stepped up to this position. I wish him well and thank you for the year of excellent progress, confident that we can look forward to many more.

WORTH MENTIONING

Rick White has joined the City of Pasco as Community and Economic Development Director. 2008 is the Centennial Year of the Moore Mansion, owned by Brad & Debra Peck. James A. Moore III, grandson of the builder, is scheduled to participate in a Centennial party at the Mansion in October. Veronica Salazar is the new office manager and Justin Brault has joined the technical staff at Network Task.com. Pasco Specialty Kitchen Gift Shop has opened at 114 S. 4th Avenue. The shop features local products such as jellies, vinegars, cakes, breads and soups. Debbie Bone-Harris received the “Best of Embellishment”

Award at the Pacific Northwest Quiltfest for her wearable art creation entitled “Coral Kelp”. Cunningham Jim Carter and Buddy Cunningham of Fat Boys Fleet Services worked with Ed Mulhausen, owner of the neighboring Burger Ranch, to create a new menu item. The “Fat Boys” burger features 2 beef patties, 2 slices of cheese, ham, bacon, pickles, lettuce, sauce and a fried egg! It’s available only at the Oregon Avenue Burger Ranch. Andrea Sell of the Franklin PUD has earned the status of Journeyman Meterman. Sell is the first female to hold this title at Franklin PUD. (Maybe a slight change of title is in order?)

LITTLE MIR ACLE #61

Q

What can I do to become better at my job? I seem to be mired in mediocrity.

A

The answer is courtesty of the great Duke Ellington: “If you want to lead the orchestra turn your back on the crowd.” Duke Ellington was often seen seated on his suitcase in the back of a Pullman car writing his music as his musicians sipped Scotch and played poker. They became intoxicated. He became a legend. Stop doing what does not take you where you want to go. Over 2400 years ago, Socrates wrote, “Break the crust of convention.” Use your time in the quest of becoming a legend.
