February 9: Brochures Ready Brochures publicizing the Summer Institute, Advanced Institute, and Open Institutes should be ready for distribution by Feb. 9. At tend the Saturday Session, to get yours hot of the printer. Some local designated TCs will re ceive a bundle to distribute in their district. For those of you farther away, we will be mail ing some to you.
February 9: Sat. Session with a Book Discussion The February 9 Saturday Session will include time to discuss Jon Krakauer’s book, Into the Wild. It’s a short book (207 pgs.) and a movie will be out soon. There is still time to earn 1 graduate credit: at tend the Feb, April and May sessions.

February 29: Voices, Visions, and Verse Voices, Visions, and Verse is looking for your students’ writing and artwork. We want to have the final product ready by the May 17 Saturday Session/Summer Institute Kickoff. Have your students take time to look through their portfolios to find a piece ready for publication then send it to Heather Hollands. The guidelines and permission forms are found on our website. March 31: MiniGrant Deadline Yes they are back. The application should be up on the website as early as February 9. We know it’s a quick turnaround, but hopefully you’ve already been brainstorming ideas for teacher professional development. Budget up to $500 with a suggestion of finding matching funds. Grants will be awarded in April.
March 31: SI Applications Due For those of you nudging a colleague to apply for the Summer Institute, the applications will be up on the web in early February. You can nominate someone by contacting Mark, Jan, or Suzanne (emails on top of newsletter). The deadline for applying is March 31 so keep nudging!
May: TBA Dr. Joe Lubig (NMU) is hoping to have 60 middle school students from Walden Charter School (Pon tiac, MI) visit the Marquette area the first week of May. He is looking for TCs interested in being in volved. Contact him at

Congratulations to 3 TCs! Dean Weiger (2006) spent his Christmas break in Thail and and got married! Dan Turecky (2004) earned his Ed. D. from Central Michigan University in December. Leah Maskert (and husband) have a new addition: Blake David born Jan. 6.
