It was an inspiring sight to see more than 50 tree care professionals along with as many community volunteers all working together to clean up the grounds of Salem Drive Elementary School on November 1st. The day of pruning, tree removal, landscaping and planting was the latest in a series of successful projects initiated by the ever-growing, “One Day, One School” program. The donation of time, machinery and expertise saved the taxpayers an estimated $80-$100,000! The program got started when Tom Gallagher, owner of Ace Gallagher Tree Stump Grinding LLC, was walking his child to school and was alarmed by the hazardous branches and dead trees in the paths. At that point he teamed up with Scott Eveland, Mayor of Florham Park and Rick Close, district manager of the Davey Tree Expert Company in Morris Plains to come up with a comprehensive program to deal with the lack in school budgets for addressing these types of issues. They created and put into place the program that is now called, “One Day, One School”. The program has shown how just one day of volunteer work at one school could make for a much safer environment for the students.

THE COOKIE PARTY opened it's doors in November of 2007. However it's roots were born generations ago. As a child growing up, I was my mother's little helper in the kitchen. Watching, learning, mixing and sprinkling while preparing her recipes for a house full of family and friends to enjoy over 40 years of birthdays, holidays and Sunday dinners. It was always so exciting and these shared times were always special to me. When I became a wife and had my own children, I carried on these traditions. My two little ones loved helping me mix the dough, add ingredients and shape and bake the cookies, with such anticipation to begin icing and decorating them. I could see the wonderment in their eyes, reminiscent of my own with my mother. They were so proud of creating something we would all enjoy.
