This is my first year of teaching 4th Grade Language Arts at West Point Elementary. Previously, I taught Reading for one year at Tappahannock Elementary School in grades K-3. I received my undergraduate degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University and since then, have completed a master’s certificate through the Teacher Licensure Program at the University of Richmond. My teaching style is collaborative, in that I welcome the input of both students and parents. Through the use of daily morning class meetings, I hope to foster a sense of community and caring between the students and myself. At the beginning of the year, I will be sending home a newsletter each Friday that summarizes weekly class lessons and activities and gives you a heads up about our plans for the following week. Over time, I plan to turn the responsibility of writing the newsletter over to the students. This will encourage them to take responsibility for their own learning, and it will also give them extra practice on developing essential writing skills. Parents and guardians are always welcome in my classroom. You may call the school to set up an appointment or email me. I will return all phone calls / emails within 24 hours. I encourage you to attend Back to School Night on Thursday, September 17th so that we may have a chance to meet in person, and you will be able to explore our classroom.

It is our classroom goal that all students be afforded the opportunity to maximize their learning potential. In order to reach this goal, please keep in mind the following equation: Child + Parent + Teacher = A Successful Student I am pleased to be working with you and your child and look forward to a successful school year! Respectfully, Sidney Sullivan 4th Grade Teacher
