Investigation of the Deutsche Verbundgesellschaft (DVG) An investigation of the Deutsche Verbundgesellschaft (DVG) regarding a further extension of the UCTE-interconnected system leads to the following results: • Networks with very high transmission tasks (1000 MW and more over distances of 1000 km and more) face high losses and high demand of reactive power. These factors set limits to the transmission of active power in AC-systems. • In extended interconnected AC-systems low frequency inter area power oscillations are observed. For damping these oscillations installation of Power System Stabilisers (PSS) in all power plants of the system becomes necessary. • In the present UCTE-system a saturation of the benefit of sharing reserve power can be observed. • A further extension of the UCTE-system would lead to very high co-ordination efforts in respect to: - system planning (unit size, voltage level, reliability concepts) - system operation (primary control, secondary control, data exchange, energy accounting)
