Military Service Academy Nominations As a Member of Congress, it has always been my pleasure to nominate students from the 12th Congressional District to the Academies. To be considered for an appointment to one of the United States Service Academies, an applicant must receive a nomination from an authorized nominating source. Any students interested in applying for a nomination should contact my Service Academy Coordinator at my district office in Roseville, Michigan at (586) 498‐7122 or (248) 968‐2025 to receive an application in the mail or for any additional questions. Page Program The Congressional Page Program provides high school students with the opportunity to work for the U.S. House of Representatives and attend classes to gain firsthand knowledge of the legislative process. The Page Program is administered through the Office of the Clerk, but Pages are selected by the Speaker and Minority Leader. Often, individual Members are asked to recommend students, so if you are interested, please contact your Member’s office. Requirements The program is dived into three semesters. High school juniors with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) may apply to the fall or spring sessions. There are no GPA requirements for the summer session. All applicants must have proof of U.S. Citizenship and Congressman Levin’s

sponsorship. Also, all applicants must be at least 16 years of age by the day they begin the Page program. There are no exceptions to these requirements. Duties House Pages have the unique privilege of interacting with all facets of U.S. Capitol. They serve predominantly as messengers between the house and senate, carrying documents between Members’ offices, committees and the Library of Congress. The semester Pages report to work directly after classes and continue until 4:30 or until the House adjourns for the day. Students who are selected to serve as a Page participate for a minimum of one semester, but may be selected to stay for an additional semester. All Pages are paid approximately $1, 500 on the last day of every month. Automatic deductions will be made for both federal and state taxes, as well as Social Security and residence hall fees. These fees consist of an initial $100 security deposit and a monthly $400 fee. The monthly fee includes five breakfasts, six lunches and five dinners per week and is automatically deducted from the Page’s salary. To view additional information on the U.S. House of Representatives Page Program please visit their official website at http://pageprogram.house.gov/ and view the Page Program Fact Sheet. Internships Working in a Congressional office can be an exciting and important learning experience. An internship provides an excellent
opportunity to gain valuable experience, and observe first‐hand how our government operates. Interns gain practical work experience by undertaking a variety of administrative and legislative responsibilities in the office. Interns in the Washington office draft constituent correspondence, attend briefings and Congressional hearings, and prepare memoranda for me and members of my staff. Interns in the District Office conduct research, assist with constituent casework and draft correspondence. Interns in both offices assist with answering phones, data entry and general office systems operations. Interns are an important part of my staff. Internships are available for the purpose of furthering educational objectives; therefore they are usually unpaid and awarded to graduate and college‐level students. There is no application deadline. Interns are accepted throughout the year on both a full and part‐time basis. Priority is given to applicants from Michigan's 12th congressional district, although all interested persons are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on an applicant's general office and computer experience, interview, and a short writing sample. Please submit a cover letter, resume and a brief writing sample to the office of your choice. If you have any questions concerning the program, please do not hesitate to contact my office. from its talent bank with suitable education, experience and skills for that position. The applications and resumes are sent to the requesting Senate office for its review.
Working for Congress is a very rewarding experience. But with 100 Senators, 435 Members of Congress and scores of committees and subcommittees, it can be difficult to know where to begin. There are a couple of places where you can go to find assistance in your job search. The Senate and House of Representatives both maintain placement offices to help job seekers and Senate and Congressional offices looking to fill positions. House Placement Office The House Placement Office maintains a binder with job listings from House members and committees. Job hunters may only look at the binder in the House Placement Office. Applicants may leave a resume for each position in which they are interested and the House Placement Office will forward the resume to the office that placed the listing.
The Senate Placement Office also publishes an employment bulleting every Tuesday with job listings from Senate offices and committees. Job seekers can drop off a resume for each position in which they are interested. The Senate Placement Office will forward the resume to the office that placed the listing. The Senate office will then get in touch with the applicant directly schedule an interview.
The House Placement Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Longworth House Office Building, Room B‐227 Washington, D.C. 20515 Phone: 202‐225‐8000
Hart Senate Office Building Room SH‐142 Washington, D.C. 20515 Phone: 202‐224‐9167 TTY: 202‐224‐4215
The Senate Placement Office records the positions in that week’s employment bulleting on its Job Line—202‐228‐JOBS. The Senate Placement Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and operates on a walk‐in basis.
Financial Student Loans Senate Placement Office The nonpartisan Senate Placement Office provides Senators and Senate committees with assistance in filling professional and support position vacancies on their staffs by providing, upon request, applications of qualified candidates. The office maintains files for full‐time, part‐time and temporary applicants and conducts informational interviews. When a Senate office requests assistance in filling a position, an order describing skill and experience requirements is listed with the Placement Office. The Placement Office then selects applications and resumes of candidates
