Prerequisites: BUS 272 (or BUS 372); 60 credit hours. Course Description: This course examines macro-organizational theory. Organization theory seeks to answer questions about organizations such as why do they exist, what objectives do they pursue, how do they function, how do they survive and grow, whom do they interact with, how do they interact with each other and how do they deal with internal and external problems. The goal of this course is to introduce students to some of the major theoretical perspectives and issues studied in organization theory. The main tool to achieve this is to critically evaluate academic articles that have shaped the way we think about organizations. These evaluations will be carried out through traditional lectures, group activities involving weekly topic discussions and presentations and two mid-term exams (one short essay type and another multiple choice type). Course Objectives By following this course, students should be able to 1. Deeply understand the various aspects of organizations examined in organization and management theory 2.
