There is no required text for this course. Required reading material will be available through the SFU Library or posted to Canvas.

Course Objectives: Students in this course will be incorporating critical thinking skills with contextualized business communication skills. Students will be expected to apply critical thinking to identify, assess, and report on conflicting perspectives regarding current business topics. As a “W” course, students will be given the opportunity to develop and demonstrate writing skills for business communication. Working individually and in teams, the goals of this course are that:       

Students will demonstrate critical thinking at an introductory level. Students will be able to analyze a business situation and develop alternatives. Students will understand and apply best practices for clarity in business communication. Students will identify and assess conflicting perspectives. Students will be able to promote and support recommendations based on sound reasoning and evidence. Students will analyze the role of language when thinking critically in a business context. Students will be able to highlight and use key vocabulary and grammatical structures that support effective business communication.

Grading: 50% 25% 25%

Written Assignments Table Talk Final Exam

100% Assignments are mandatory. Late assignments will only be accepted at the discretion of the instructors, but as a minimum a penalty of 10% of their value will be charged per day late or portion thereof. Students are required to submit assignments using MS WORD software.
