Automatic Traffic Signal Control Now-a-days, the Traffic signal system uses fixed time to control the flow of automobiles through the junction. It allocates same amount of time which may leads to wastage of time because, it allocates same amount of time to the side which has less traffic So, we are proposing a automatic traffic signal control system which allocates the time depends upon the traffic. IR sensors are used to detect the traffic density.

IR sensor detect the traffic by using LED and Photo detector

LED

continuously emits the light if a object is present then the emitted light reflected .Reflected light will be taken by photo detector. So, we need to use four IR sensor on the four sides of a junction .A microcontroller or microprocessor has to use to control the complete operation. Here, we are using the ATmega328 microcontroller from AVR family which is a 28-pin microcontroller. However, synchronization of multiple traffic signal system is a complicated problem. Emergency vehicles need not to wait at the junction Traffic signals will automatically changes depend upon the output of the microcontroller. Hardware Requirements: 1. Atmega328 Microcontroller 2. IR Sensors 3. LED’s 4. Breadboard 5. Connecting wires 6. Battery 7. Debugging cable Software Requirements: 1. Arduino Software Programming: 1.Arduino programming Advantages: 1. No need to wait much time on the Traffic if there is no Traffic on other sides 2. Allocates the time depend on the Density of the Traffic 3. It Automatically Actives green signal when an Emergency vehicle comes towards the Junction
