Color Mixing for Artists – Course #09CBI103-1 & -2 Instructor: Constance Sayas sayasdesign@earthlinknet, 720-941-5774 MATERIALS LIST: Note: A $5.00 accessory materials fee will be requested at first class. WATER CONTAINERS: two, for dipping and rinsing brushes. PAPER TOWELS: for wiping of brushes and cleaning palettes. VIVA works best. PAINT BRUSHES: two or more inexpensive watercolor brushes, round, size #6 or similar. COLOR MIXING PAPER: I will be providing paper for extensive color mixing exercises, however, you will still need some watercolor paper as described below: WATERCOLOR PAPER: You will need some inexpensive watercolor paper for practice mixes. "Hotpress" or "cold press" surface; 9 x 12" or similar. You can use a watercolor pad such as Canson Watercolor pad or a watercolor block such as Arches (140#). Or you may select a large individual sheet and cut it into smaller pieces. NOTE: "Hot press", a smooth surface designation, is the preferred surface used for botanical painting. However, cold press is okay for these color mixing exercises. PALETTE: You will need a LARGE wheel type paint palette with paint wells. Highly recommended: Michael Wilcox Watercolor palette (NOT Wilcox Oil/Acrylic palette). This palette is available online at Wilcox's website (www.schoolofcolor.com). The layout of this Wilcox palette is what we will be referencing in class.
