WATER CONTAINERS: two, for dipping and rinsing brushes. PAPER TOWELS: for wiping of brushes and cleaning palettes. VIVA works best. PAINT BRUSHES: two or more inexpensive watercolor brushes, round, size #6 or similar. COLOR MIXING PAPER: I will be providing paper for extensive color mixing exercises, however, you will still need some watercolor paper as described below: WATERCOLOR PAPER: You will need some inexpensive watercolor paper for practice mixes. "Hotpress" or "cold press" surface; 9 x 12" or similar. You can use a watercolor pad such as Canson Watercolor pad or a watercolor block such as Arches (140#). Or you may select a large individual sheet and cut it into smaller pieces. NOTE: "Hot press", a smooth surface designation, is the preferred surface used for botanical painting. However, cold press is okay for these color mixing exercises. PALETTE: You will need a LARGE wheel type paint palette with paint wells. Highly recommended: Michael Wilcox Watercolor palette (NOT Wilcox Oil/Acrylic palette). This palette is available online at Wilcox's website (www.schoolofcolor.com). The layout of this Wilcox palette is what we will be referencing in class. Alternate selections are the Color Wheel Palette by Hunt Speedball at Guiry's, Meiningers, and the Daniel Smith Catalog ; or Lock Box Palette by Jack Richeson & Co., at Kozo Fine Art Materials, Michaels & Guiry's.
