Stick With It
Adam Faughn
One of the most difficult things about goal-setting is sticking with it. When the “payoff” is in the future, and other things start pressing on us, we can easily give up. Worship With Us Sunday: Worship 9 AM & 6 PM * Bible Classes 10:20 AM Wednesday: Bible Classes 7 PM
2009 Graduates This week, we have the honor of recognizing two more of our graduating seniors: Rebecca Hill and Lauren Roberson. R e b e c c a played in the band all four years of high school. She was a part of the McGavock Ladies her junior year. In her senior year she was a member of the Capital Sounds and served the Student Body as CoHistorian.
Rebecca has worked during her school years as a lifeguard at the Wave Pool and now works at Ruby Tuesday’s. Rebecca plans on pursuing a degree in early childhood education at Middle Tennessee State University in the fall. Lauren is a Member of the national Honor Society, Standing Room Only Drama Club, Latin Club, Art Club, and Service club. She was also a People to People Ambassador. Lauren also works as a lifeguard at the Wave Pool. When Lauren begins school this fall, it will be at the University of
Tampa. She will be pursuing a degree in Marine Biology. I cannot say what joy it has been to have Rebecca and Lauren as part of the youth group. You know Lebanon Road is blessed with exceptional young people and Lauren and Rebecca are no exception! They have always been such an integral part class, contributing with critical thinking and discussion. I pray they continue their good walk with the Lord in the next stage of their life and keep shining brightly!
This time of year, we are reminded of our graduates, and their ability to stick with their school work. They give us a great example of having a goal and completing it. How are you sticking with the goal of
reading through the Bible this year? We’re nearing the end of five months, but there are still seven to go. If you are a bit behind our schedule, it can be easy to give up. Don’t! Take a few minutes and catch up. When the year 2009 is over and you can look back and say you read every verse of the Bible, you’ll be so proud. Your knowledge will have increased, and you’ll be encouraged
Welcome, Chris!
by the things you learned. What about our goal to average 380 in worship? It’s been quite some time since we mentioned that one, but it’s a goal set by our shepherds, and we each need to be putting forth effort to reach that goal. We don’t want 380 in worship just for “the number.” We want to have 380 because each one that makes up that total is a soul who needs a Savior. Who can you invite?

We’d like to welcome Chris LaFever to Lebanon Road. Chris was selected to be our summer youth intern, and he begins today. Chris is a native of Ash-
ville, North Carolina, and is a student at Freed -Hardeman University. He came to the youth retreat in March and spoke for us as well, we are thrilled to have him
with us for the whole summer. He will be a good influence on our young people, and he will gain valuable experience as well. Make him feel welcome!

JD’s Column Phew! Have your last couple of weeks been crazy too? Last Wednesday, Wayne Davidson and I went over to Beech Island, SC to meet with them about our Mission trip, July 20-26. They were very encouraged by our coming and through our travel we realized how much they need us during this grief-filled time! We made the 7 hour trip home on Thursday. Friday, I was able to help my mom move my sister home from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN. Friday night was a program for James David’s school. The pot-luck Sunday afternoon was delicious, as always! Sunday was a be-at-the-building-at-3 kind of day to get ready for our Bible Camp meeting at 4:30 PM. We don’t forget our devotional either! Adam did a great job. Leah and Connie made fantastic tacos. It’s so great to have our college kids home! I know you have been very busy during this time of year. Graduations abound, events are being planned, the summer has begun! I am so thankful we can be busy and productive. Lebanon Road is a great place to be! Being busy is nice. Being busy in the Lord’s service is true happiness! I hope you are able to find the time for all the activities of life while you are so busy for the Lord. Young Men, please remember our YMS this evening. Thank you very much! --JD :)
THE SIX PARTS OF PRAYER Prayer is something that is mentioned often in the Scriptures, yet there are many of us who do not understand prayer, who really do not know what it is. We don’t need to learn merely how to say the words, but everything about prayer. Usually a prayer consists of these six parts: address, praise, thanksgiving, confession, petition, and closing. All prayers should be addressed to God the Father, not to Christ. We should be free with our sincere, heart-felt praise of God. God gives us all good things (James 1:17), so we should thank him for them. Every time we approach our Heavenly Father we should be aware of our weaknesses. God knows our needs (Matthew 6:8), but he wants us to ask Him to fulfill them (Matthew 7:711). Our prayers should be offered in Christ’s name (Col. 3:17), and be closed with the word “Amen,” which means “so be it.” The individual occasion will determine the length and emphasis to be placed on each of these parts. Some prayers, such as those offered at the Lord’s Table, may omit one or more parts. VISITATION TEAM #2 AND LETTER WRITERS WILL MEET AFTER WORSHIP SUNDAY EVENING!
