This Week’s Objectives Reading/Writing: In this brief unit, students will build their background knowledge about the importance of sports within the American culture over time. They will read two informational articles: “It’s Not Just a Game!” and “The Literature of Baseball: The Quintessential American Game.” Students will also be reintroduced to reading and writing arguments (RI.5.8 and W.5.1). They will begin to explore how to read opinion pieces. They will be introduced to the term “opinion” and be asked to identify and explain how authors use evidence to support their opinions. Grammar: punctuation review Math: This week in math we will continue Module 5. In this module, students work with two- and threedimensional figures. Volume is introduced to students through concrete exploration of cubic units and culminates with the development of the volume formula for right rectangular prisms. As always, we are continuing to work on writing about math and thoroughly explaining our steps when solving. Science:

Open House Thursday, April 4th We hope to see you at Open House! Our students have worked so hard this year and cannot wait to show off their projects!
The Book Fair will be open in the library from 5:00-6:00 pm and the classrooms will be open from 6:00-7:00 pm. There will be food trucks on Hatteras from 5:00-7:00 pm.
