Yakima Valley School is Community-based YVS closure would not save money.

Federal funding will be lost if we close YVS. Downsizing Fircrest actually cost the state $10 million.

YVS has a ‘no refusal’ policy.

No one is turned away.

YVS is a community resource, offering specialized services.

Dental Care, Psychology, Physical Therapy, Dietary Counselling, Occupational Therapy and much more.

YVS Respite Program serves over 300 people.

In 2008, over 3000 days of service were provided. Respite provides a home to people in crisis who have lost community placement. The absence of YVS will leave a gap in services.

YVS is home to people who benefit from the stability it provides. YVS has highly trained staff with a low turn-over rate (<5%) and years of experience providing stability of environment, stability of care providers, and stability of routine.

Closure plan does not address placement.

The plan does not address the ability to serve people in community programs, the cost of relocating people to ensure they are transitioning well.

Closure has impacts to the community.

Unemployment in Yakima is at 11.4% - closure would add to this rate. Loss of 275 living wage jobs will have an economic impact of $41.5 million in the community, this does not include the potential loss of jobs supporting lifestyles for those same 275 jobs. WFSE/AFSCME Council 28 • www.wfse.org

YVS is an important part of the community.

Let’s keep it.
