About the Clients: Ms. Davis I am a single woman in my 60s and I am moving to Portland to be near my grandchildren. I want a large yard because I love gardening and also want to have room for my grandchildren to play. A small house would be fine – maybe 1000–1200 square feet – and a onestory house would be nice, because it’s getting harder to climb stairs. Ms. Hwong I’m a single woman in my early 30s. I work in downtown Portland. I’d like to live near work, and near the Streetcar line or MAX. I like to hang out with friends and meet new people. The best neighborhood would have a lot of other single people. I don’t have time for yard work, so a townhouse, rowhouse, or condo of some sort would be great. I’ve been saving for several years and can spend between $325,000 and $400,000. Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs-Hart We have a growing family and are looking for a new home in a nice neighborhood. We have a daughter in 2nd grade and a son in Kindergarten, so it is important to us to be walkingdistance to an elementary school. It would be nice if there were other couples in their 30s and families with children in the neighborhood. We can spend $325,000 to $400,000. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson We are an active couple in our 40s with three children. We are looking for a larger home with at least 3 bathrooms, so we can all have space to get ready in the mornings. We love nature and want to be near a park with hiking trails. We also want large trees in our yard. We are flexible about what area of town we live in, but don’t want to spend more than $500,000. Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez We just got married last year and are looking to buy our first home. We work in Portland, and would like to live in the city. Our budget is $175,000 to $225,000. It is important to us that our neighborhood be ethnically diverse. We also need to find a house with low property taxes. While we would love a house on its own lot, we are also willing to look at row houses or condominiums in our price range. Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mr. Smith recently retired, and now we are looking for a place out in the country. We thought a few acres would be nice to try a little farming. We don’t want too much fixing to do on the house, so please find us something built after 1960. Also, our youngest son is a junior in high school. He doesn’t want to change schools, so please find us a house in the Oregon City School District. We don’t want to spend more than $350,000. Mr. Williams I am new to town and looking for a fancy place to live. I just started playing for the Trail Blazers – maybe you’ve heard of me? I’m just a rookie so I don’t make as much money as some of the players, but I can still afford a really nice house. I’m thinking about something that’s got over 3,000 square feet, a fireplace, and a large garage because I also collect classic cars. You’re the Realtor, page 2
