Assignment-Chapter 2 1.
Name three methods of data transmission that are faster than a regular modem connection. Encryption, Email, and Security School.
2.
What does log on mean? Log on is the procedure used to get access to an operating system or application, usually in a remote computer. Almost always a logon requires that the user have a user ID and a password.
3.
What is netiquette, and why is it important? Netiquette is etiquette on the Internet. It is important because a sense of netiquette arises mostly when sending or distributing email posting on Usenet groups, or chatting.
4.
Briefly define bandwidth. Indicates the speed at which data are transferred using a particular network medium. It is measured in bits per second.
5.
Many web documents are “linked”. What does that mean? Connected, especially by or as if by links.
6.
Compare and contrast a cable modem service to a DSL service. While similar in many respects, DSL and cable Internet services differ in several fundamental ways. Cable boasts faster speed than DSL Internet in theory. However, cable does not always deliver on the promise in everyday practical use.
9. Briefly explain what TCP/IP does. TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, which is a set of networking protocols that allows two or more computers to communicate. The Defense Data Network, part of the Department of Defense, developed TCP/IP, and it has been widely adopted as a networking standard.
11. What’s the difference between a dynamic IP address and a static IP address? Static IP addresses are used primarily for servers so that they don't appear to "move" while non-servers are usually assigned dynamic IP addresses. Most dynamic IP address users are users of internet service providers (ISPs) since not all the users of an ISP are online at one time and the ISPs can "get away" with not having enough IP addresses for each user. In order to use a dynamic IP address, a service such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is used to assign addresses dynamically to devices as they request them. If a static address is used, it must be manually programmed into parameters of the device's network interface. It is also possible to "fake" static IP
address assignments through DHCP by assigning the same IP address to a computer and no other each time it is requested.
12. Explain what a blog is. Is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual, citation needed with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.
13. How would you answer a person who asked you the question “Who own the internet?” nobody, because Internet was made in the U.S.A., its unique design transformed it into a resource for innovation that anyone in the world could use. 15. What is B2B commerce? Also known as e-biz is the exchange of products, services, or information between businesses rather than between businesses and consumers.
