Yaesu FT-415 Lithium Memory Battery Replacement Turn off the radio and remove the primary battery pack and antenna, then remove the two screws on the back of the case and the four screws holding the battery spring plate on the bottom of the transceiver. Gently separate the case halves, being careful to not harm or stress the ribbon cables inside. The battery is a CR1220-VJ2H (this one was a SONY), is mounted vertically and the tabs are soldered in to the control board near the top of the board.
There are paper insulators stuck on to each side of the battery, one has been removed for illustrative purposes. The battery has a blue insulating strip around its perimeter, and has quite a bit of white glue slathered around its tabs where they enter the control board. Using a suitable measuring instrument, measure the installed height of the old battery so you will know what the new battery installed height should be. Remember, there is very little room for error! At the suggestion of a fellow amateur, I did not try to remove the control board, which would require that the speaker leads be unsoldered, but instead cut the existing tabs and soldered in the new battery to them using a very hot iron and very little contact time (too much heat and the battery is destroyed). Happy battery changing! Eric Bryer VE3HF
