Executive Summary All the Sports Fiesta Event Leaders talked to the serfs to motivate them to smile as they trudged around in their goldenrod cloaks at menial tasks during Sports Fiesta events. Still needed— those who can pour water into cups at the finish line, those who can handle a paring knife to slice oranges, and those who can see divers dive and count to ten on their fingers. End of Executive Summary What’s coming up? July 24 LCDR Kristin Hodapp, Navy Hospital, Physical Fitness Presentation July 31 Coach Sam Cici discusses CHS Baseball Program August 7 Navy Nuclear Program August 14 Lety Buil, President, Octagon Club, Update and Report And what happened today? In a sea of goldenrod we had guests. Matt Zigrowski and Dave Wilcox were guests of Joe Ochoa. Nick Gilliland came with his dad Mark. Nancy Owen and Assembly person Mary Salas were the guests of Jim Cooper. Nancy received an award as Woman of the Year in the 79th Assembly District from Mrs. Salas. I think she was supposed to get this at the Rotary Club, but maybe the Assembly person couldn’t hang around for lunch, so the Optimists filled it. To bad the guy from the Eagle Journal wasn’t here. We do more than bedpans. If anybody has a neighbor or knows someone who gets an award we can fit them in on our program. I guess we buy them breakfast too. That’s what happens when life is full of serendipity. Ledge Hakes and Jim Cartwright went over all the work that has gone into preparing for 37th Annual Sports Fiesta. There has been a powerful lot of behind-the-scenes activities working with the city and the air station to set things up right. Now we just have to show up in our goldenrod shirts and smile. Some details--There will be a cookout on Saturday, July 26. It will be at the Yacht Club from 6-8 PM. A flyer will get to you somehow. Rich McCampbell says that he needs some help with the diving events on Sunday morning and afternoon. This is down at the Municipal Pool. All you have to be able to do is add numbers—no fractions, just decimals. It can be fun. Call Rich. We are still trying to locate a few more tables to use for the scorers, the money changers, and the water pourers. If you have a sturdy 4 to 6 foot table that we can use on Saturday and Sunday (26 and 27 July) give Bob Sheridan a call (435-1938). We pick up and deliver. Dave Wilcox, who works with Joe Ochoa, was thanked by Roy Mantz for using the internet to attract entrants to our events. And did you see Joe’s ad for the Family Gym in the Eagle Journal which featured our own Jack Chilton on his red bike as well as an entry form for the Sports Fiesta. Good show!!! Gooch returned to take up the 50-50 drawing duties. In his first try in weeks he had trouble giving away $40. Someone out three has a winning 444 ticket in their pocket. I wonder if Gooch will honor it next week. We had two signup sheets circulating today. Jack Larison wanted people to go down to the City Rec Center in their yellow uniforms to herd little kids through exercise routines. Just the thing for grandparent training. Short fuse action because it is from 10-noon today (Thursday). And Jim Cartwright wants to know who is going to be available on Sports Fiesta weekend. He had a complex coding where one of three marks was to be place by one’s name. I don’t think his sheet made it out of table number one. Anyway, Promise Yourself to be so strong…
