February 13, 2008 To whom it may concern: Allan Halpern was referred to me in March 2007 by Dr. James Hollenberg of New York Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center. Mr. Halpern was seen by me on April 4 for severe back pain and impaired walking. Following tests and MRIs, my diagnosis was spinal stenosis affecting multiple vertebrae. His condition did not respond to therapy or cortisone injection and surgery then became necessary. I referred him to neurosurgeon Dr. James Farmer at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Surgery was delayed until mid-August 2007 owing to the fact that Mr. Halpern could not be taken off certain heart medications until that time.
