Full Marks: 100 Answer any five (5) Questions All questions carry equal marks

1. Describe in details the various challenges that have to be faced in designing mobile computing systems. 20 2. a. What is a Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET)? What design challenges does it pose? b. What preconditions are required to implement table-driven routing protocols? What is the difference between table-driven routing protocols and on-demand routing protocols? c. Why does Wireless Routing Protocol (WRP) maintain more than one table? Explain the characteristics of each table. (2+3)+(3+3)+(3+6) 3. a. Consider the following figure (Figure 1). Describe the working of Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol and establish the route from S to D using Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol.

b. What are the differences between Adhoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) routing protocol? 15+5

4. What are the characteristics of Bluetooth Communication? What is a piconet? What are the different low power modes of a Bluetooth device? What are the functions of the L2CAP layer and the Link Manager Protocol Layer? 3+4+5+8 5. a. Explain the reason behind the design of mobile IP (MIP). b. With the help of Figure 1 explain how a message from S will reach D using MIPTCP. Assume that D originally belongs to the network in which S belongs You may redraw the figure to reflect the above assumption and any other assumptions that you make and write down all assumptions clearly. 4+16 6. a. Why are sensor networks becoming popular? Mention some application areas of sensor networks. b. Describe the working of a sensor node. 6+14 7. Write short notes on (any two): a Clusterhead Gateway Switch Routing (CGSR) protocol b. Wireless Application Protocol c. Cellular Network
