When Your Becomes a

Nightmare #1 in a Series “Heroes”

Our culture is always looking for a hero to worship. From sports figures to politicians, we gravitate to the person who holds that celebrity status. The Bible is filled with genuine heroes who were neither politicians nor sports celebrities. Today let’s look at the Biblical hero: Caleb. His story is found in the 4th book of the Old Testament, Numbers. 1. Caleb’s dream fit in with _________ _________. “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, ‘Let us go up at once to take possession, for we are well able to overcome it. But the men who had gone up with him said, ‘We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we…there we saw the giants…and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight. Then all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night….If only we had died in this wilderness.” Numbers 13:30-31, 33, 14:1, 2 NKJV

Principle #1 It doesn’t matter how passionate you are or how relentlessly you pursue your dream. If God doesn’t approve of your dream, you are in deep weeds!! David’s Prayer: I Chronicles 29:10 ff NLT O LORD, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name.” “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31 NKJV “If God is against us, what difference does it make who’s for us.” Cummins Translation

2. Caleb’s dream fit in with his _________________. “Now Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him, doing just as the LORD had commanded Moses.” Deuteronomy 34:9 NLT “…the Lord spoke to Joshua….Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people.” Joshua 1: 1-2 NLT “Now, as you can see, the LORD has kept me alive and well…all these 45 years…even while Israel wandered in the wilderness. Today I am 85 years old. I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then. So give me the hill country that the LORD promised me. You will remember that as scouts we found the descendants of Anak living there in great walled towns. But if the LORD is with me, I will drive them out of the land, just as the LORD said.” Joshua 14:10-12 NLT

Principle #2 God’s blessings are always going to harmonize with His gifts He places in your life. 3. Caleb’s dream would bless many other __________________. “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Philippians 2:3-5 NLT

Principle #3 When your dream has all the good things going for it, you can be sure that the enemy will try to kill it! “We grew up believing in Cinderella, yet some of us feel our palace turned into a duplex, our prince turned out to be a frog, and the wicked stepmother turned out to be our mother-in-law.” Beth Moore
