DECISION MATRIX A Decision Matrix is a tool to assists decision makers by adding structure that: 1. Specifies and prioritizes your needs. 2. Rates and compares the different alternatives. 3. Scores the different options to make a selection

The “Weighted” Decision Matrix applies weights to the different criteria from 1 –5. The highest or most important need would be a 5 and the lowest or not as important criteria a 1. These weights are of course subjective and based on the strategic & operational needs of the organization. Each participant in the evaluation procedure then selects a number value from 0 to 10 based on their how he/she perceives that alternative addresses each need. Typical scores are: 0 to 3 - Negative * does not satisfy or poorly satisfies the needs of the org 4 to 6 - Neutral * satisfies the needs of the org, but does not impress 7 to 10 - Positive * more than satisfies the needs of the org The score is multiplied by the weight and a “weighted score” is attained. Finally, the weighted scores are totaled to give a final score from which you can make comparisons and a selection.
