POMONA POLICE DEPARTMENT

YOUTH SERVICES & GRAFFITI UNIT The Youth Services & Graffiti Unit has made several graffiti arrests in the last month. The team has been working diligently to apprehend the vandals that have caused a significant amount of damage to property city wide. The team works closely with School Resource Officers, Patrol Officers and Public Works to identify taggers and make these arrests. The Pomona Police Department is cracking down on graffiti vandals and is working with the public, businesses, schools and Neighborhood Watch groups to close in on these suspects. Our most recent arrests are listed below. As a Reminder: Some of the suspects below are juveniles. State law does not allow for their pictures or names to be released.

The photograph to the left depicts damage caused by an 18 year old male who resides in Ontario. Thanks to witnesses the subject was caught and arrested for this misdemeanor vandalism. Damage is estimated at $50 (09-025048)

This incident occurred in the 800 block of Reeves Pl. Once again, thanks to witnesses, this suspect was apprehended and arrested for felony vandalism under (09022163). Damage is estimated at $500.00. This vandal is a 21 year old male who resides in the city of Pomona.

An arrest was made on a 13 year old male Pomona resident for misdemeanor vandalism to city street signs. Estimated damage is listed at $100 (09013746). The juvenile was also cited for possession of graffiti tools.

A 13 year old male Pomona resident was arrested and cited for misdemeanor vandalism under (08-169527). The damage to Marshall Middle School was under $100.

The photographs to the left were taken under (09-014432) at Emerson Elementary School. Damage to the school is estimated at $1450.00. There were 4 subjects arrested for this incident. All four suspects in this case are females between the ages of 13-15. They all live in the City of Pomona. All four were charged with felony vandalism as well as 186.22A PC (gang enhancement).

FYI—186.22A PC (gang enhancement), with this as an additional charge, the defendant could possibly get an additional 3—5 years added to their sentence because of their admittance to “ the gang, or association to the gang or ties to the gang.”

The following photographs were taken under DR# 09-036060, the estimated damage was over $400. Three subjects were arrested and charged with misdemeanor vandalism. All three subjects are 13 year old male Pomona residents.

MORE ARRESTS & CITATIONS The photographs to the left show the damage done by 2 vandals in the area of Garey Ave/Jefferson Ave in the City of Pomona. The estimated cost of damage is $400 (09041974). Both Suspects were arrested. Both are male between 16-17 years of age. They were charged with misdemeanor vandalism and possession of graffiti implements, an additional misdemeanor charge.

Taggers arrested for felony vandalism at Marshall Middle School. The estimated cost of this damage is $1000.00 (09-038008). Tagger 1 is a 12 year old male who resides in Pomona. Tagger 2 is 15 years of age and lives in Pomona. Both juveniles were arrested for felony vandalism. They were also charged with 182 PC (Conspiracy).

Two taggers were arrested for vandalism in the downtown area of Pomona. Damage is estimated at $400. Both subjects are adult residents of Montclair and Baldwin Park.

If you see graffiti vandals in progress: • DO NOT APPROACH or ATTEMPT to apprehend the vandal • Get a good description of the vandal (s) and their vehicle (s) • If vandals leave, which direction did they go? • Call 911 with the above information Remember: You can remain anonymous when you call the police department.

Did You Know: That in the City of Pomona under section 18-153 of the city code; it is illegal for a minor (under the age of 18) to possess any graffiti implement, such as markers, spray paint, acrylic paint & acid etching. Did You Know: That in the City of Pomona under section 34-262 of the city code; any student who is not in school during school hours and does not have a valid excuse, is in violation of “Day Time Curfew”. The student can be cited by police for this violation as well as any other actions that might be taken by the school or the State of California Department of Education.
