PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS- For all ages/age specific
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS- 0-24 months
Come & Explore (0-6 years) During early childhood, children learn how to learn. Children construct knowledge through physical activity, social interactions with others and their own active thinking. Children practice the tools of learning: how to plan, monitor, revise, reflect, investigate and solve problems: and to see and exchange points of view with others. Through observation and action, children form their own hypotheses, try them out, find out what happens and formulate their own answers. Children develop learning strategies from first-hand actions with objects in their world and from exchanging points of view with peers and adults. ELECT pg. 15
Musical Babies (0-12 months) “Learning” begins as infants seek patterns and begin to recognize the familiar voices and faces of their parents: parents in turn, respond to infant cues setting in motion a dynamic learning system. Contingent and sensitive responsiveness of parents to children’s signals is a natural form of teaching and learning. ELECT pg. 15
Terrific Twos (24-36 months) During the early years, children learn through active engagement, activity, observations, experimentation and social interactions with others. As they develop an understanding about themselves and others they learn to regulate their emotions, attend to what is important, and to make plans – all based on the cultural values and practices embedded in their social and physical environments. ELECT pg. 14
Baby Movement (0-12 months) How do children learn about the world? Babies are born learning. When they interact with other babies, babies are like little scientist, observing faces and gestures and noticing everything around them. ELECT pg. 14 Fun for Ones (12-24 months) As children engage in various forms of social play and are supported to recognize the varied capabilities and characteristics of other children, they learn to get along with others, to negotiate, collaborate and communicate and to care for others. HDLH pg. 24 “Every child deserves to have someone’s eyes light up when they enter the room.” Clinton 2012
