Journey to KUNNAR OIL FIELD:• • • • • •

The Trip was organized by the DEPARTEMENT OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERING We left for the field at around 6:00 am After the enjoyable Journey and breakfast, we reached the field at around 11:00 am At our arrival we were taken to the ADMIN BLOCK, where we were given a presentation about The Site Plan, Field safety and Health measures etcetera We then left for the well # 06 which was producing crude oil with a well head pressure of 1400 psi. There we saw the CHRISTMAS TREE AND ITS whole ASSEMBLY.

CHRISTMAS TREE:IT is an assembly which is installed at the the surface of the well to provide a connection between the bottom hole and the surface. it consists of: • TREE CAP • SWAB VALVE • WING VALVE • TUBING PRESSURE GAUGE • ADJUSTABLE CHOKE • PERMANENT CHOKE • CROSS • UPPER MEASTER VALVE • LOWER MASTER VALVE • PRESSURE GAUGES • DOGNUTS • SURFACE SAFTERY VALVES • TUBING HANGER • TUBING SPOOL • TUBING-CASING ANNULUS SIDE OUTLET • SIDE VALVE • CASING VALVE • CASING PRESSURE GAUGE • FLANGE • SURFACE CASING

VISIT TO LPG PLANT After the Hi-tea we visited the LPG plant where the crude sample being extracted from the wells was being processed. There were different lines coming from different wells amongst which, one was linked with Tando-Alam For the separation OF THE CRUDE into different components there were different units installed.

• • • •

SEPARATOR UNIT STABILIZER UNIT CHILLING UNIT OIL STORAGE TANKS • LPG STORAGE TANKS

SEPARATOR UNIT:This unit separates the crude into Oil, water and Gas. Water from there was being sent to some injection wells. Same was the case with the Gas. The remaining component of oil was then sent to the STABILIZER UNIT.

STABILIZER UNIT:First Unit for the Stabilization was the DE-ETHANIZER whose function was to separate the lighter component of HC’s particularly Methane and Ethane from the coming mixture with the help of • •

High Temperature(280 Celsius) Low Pressure

DE-BUTANIZER • •

Here the heavier components of the mixture that are propane and butane were being separated. Again with the help of High Temperature (700 Celsius approx) Low Pressure

CHILLING UNIT:Here Refrigeration Action takes place on the remaining mixture. Propane is used as a refrigerant. The mixture, after chilling is sent to the 3rd stabilization Unit.

○ OIL STORAGE TANKS After the stabilization of the mixture in the 3rd stabilization unit. The separated oil is led to the Oil Storage Tanks (wherefrom it is sent to Boozers)

○ LPG STORAGE TANKS The LPG components are stored separately in the LPG Storage Tanks.

POWER GENERATION UNIT:The power required to execute the different processes at the LPG Plant was generated by separate POWER GENRATION UNIT installed within the premises of the Field.

Caterpillar Diesel Generator( 500 KW) • Waukesha Gas Generator (400 KW) •

The total production capacity of the plant was 1.2 Mega-W atts

FLARING OFF THE GASES:Due to low capacity of the storage of the gases some quantity of the lower HC’s and waste gases separated at the LPG Plant were led to the flare.

WAREHOUSE: Within the premises of the plant there was a ware house where several drilling, completion and production equipments were stocked which included: • Single unit Christmas tree • Multiple unit Christmas tree • Permanent Packer • Wireline Retrievable Packer • Half mule shoe • Perforated pipes • Dead well tester • Chicksan pipe • Filters • Pub Joint • Drill Bit

LUNCH AT THE BASE-CAMP:• • •

After the visit to the ware house, the students were taken to official mess Lunch was served After the lunch we relaxed in the TV room for almost an hour.

DEPARTURE:• • •

At around 4:00 pm we started our journey back home. On the way back, we offered Asar and Maghrib Prayers We reached the campus at around 8:00 pm .

REFLECTION:The Trip proved to be very eventful and educational since it was our first exposure to the practical
