Tufts Community Union Senate

3 A Resolution To Commemorate the Service of Veterans to the United States of America 1Whereas millions of individuals have risked their lives in the defense of the United States of 2America; and 3Whereas hundreds of thousands of Americans are currently deployed around the world, 4including in Iraq and Afghanistan; and 5Whereas many Tufts students are currently enrolled in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps 6(ROTC) or plan to enroll in Officer Candidate School (OCS), where they will be called upon to 7serve their country; and 8Whereas Veterans Day is a federal holiday; and 9Whereas classes were held on Veterans Day 2009 despite its status as a University holiday; and 10Whereas classes are again scheduled on Veterans Day 2010; and 11Whereas classes are not scheduled on Veterans Day 2011 and 2012; therefore 12Be it resolved that the Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate encourages the Tufts 13administration to consider altering the 2010-2011 academic calendar to not hold classes on 14Veterans Day; and 15Be it further resolved that the TCU Senate encourages the Tufts faculty to further integrate 16Veterans Day into the Tufts experience by reaching out to veterans in the surrounding 17communities and bringing them to campus to share their experiences with students.
