Bulgarian Pyramid Lesson Description: Bulgarian socialism’s greatest achievements were industrializing an agrarian society and, not only educating a largely illiterate population but also producing students whose linguistic, mathematical and scientific skills are vigorously sought after by Western Europe, Britain and the United States. Paradoxically, when Bulgaria moved to a democratic political system with the goal of improving its general standard of living, many of the young people needed for such a daunting task began emigrating to the West.
