A Letter from USU Moab’s Director Dr. Sam Sturman Technology is letting students attend colleges from nearly every location imaginable. So why would a student want to earn a degree living in Moab? To me that is obvious: location, location, and location.  If you are an out of state student you pay instate tuition to attend Utah State University Moab.  You have access to world class hiking, mountain biking, rafting, sightseeing, motorcycling, 4-wheeling, winter cross country skiing, and exploring.

 Students have access to two national parks along with thousands of square miles of public lands to explore. That is why I have chosen to work in Moab: location, location, and location.  You get to live in one of the most spectacular locations on earth.  USU Moab offers the following degrees in this community:      

3 pre-associate degrees 14 bachelors 12 masters 1 doctorate 6 minors Endorsements and Certificates

Conquering General Education   Requirements      Colleges and Universities require a common core of classes be completed  by freshman and sophomore students.  These classes are referred to as general  education requirements or ‘gen ed’ for short.  College students have to take:       Writing              Humanities    Intermediate Writing & Research      Creative Arts    Statistics              Physical Science    College Algebra            Social Science    American Government          Computers    Life Science    General Education requires:   30 – 33 hours of specific courses                             Associate of Science (Electives 30 hours)                                         Or                             Associate of Arts (Elective of 20 credits)                                                                  and language of 10 hours      Do my credits transfer to other schools if I transfer?  That is why it is so  important to talk to your advisor about planning your schedule.  It is easy to take  a lot of interesting classes, but when you actually want to apply them towards a  degree they may not meet degree requirements.  Talk to the advisor at the school  you are attending.  Stick with the general education core classes if you are just  starting out in college and planning to transfer the credit to another institution.
